Default "Maint. Required" light flashing

My wife's 2005 RS2.0 xB has an orange "Maint. Required" light that comes on when we start the car, but it doesn't go right out. It stays on and flashes 2 or 3 times after all other lights have turned off...then it goes out and stays out. Any idea? Could it be a scheduled maintenance thing based on mileage? Thanks in advance.

Is this the first time it happened? Cuz by your post count and time in this sight, it would seem like you had to have experienced this before..

And plus... "My maint reqd light won't turn off" And " My E-brake light flashes on hard launches" Seem to be the 2 most popular threads. There are about 25 or more of each already. Did you search?

I'm not trying to be rude i'm just wondering how people don't know about this already. It's been discussed, MANY MANY MANY MANY times

I'm not offended. I don't spend a great deal of time on the threads that actually talk about the cars. I did at first, but now I'm mostly just hanging out in the Off Topic area for fun.
I thought about the oil change thing too, but I don't think that's it. According to the window sticker that the dealership puts in when they change it, her car is only at 3,600 miles. I usually change it at 3,000 (I'm a little late) but the light shouldn't come on until after 5,000..right?
UNLESS...maybe the dealership forgot to reset it the last time.

Oh ok,I understand why you don't read the car parts on here most people are as$holes. And only a few are a great help and very nice. Each group knows who they are too! But anyway, This is what happens

The like comes on in relation to Kilometers, not miles... for some reason??? But thats what the manual says. But i'll translate roughly to miles.. At 3K miles after reseting the button the light will come on and blink when starting the car...approx 3-5 times-can't remember... Then if you still don't do the change and reset the light, once you hit 5K miles it will come on and stay on all the time.

There is a way to change the interval for the light coming on, but i don't see the purpose, just pay attention to the mileage. I usually set my "TRIP B" meter as my oil change indicator and use "TRIP A" for if i need to know exact mileage

That makes sense. Thanks for the info. I was planning to look it up in the Owner's Manual tonight when I got home, but sinse I just thought about it I figured I'd jump on here and ask. Thanks again.

tCizzler is dead on. Sounds like the tech didn't reset your reminder the last time you had it changed.
