My first was a stick.... I learned to drive one when I was 15 in my friends nissan hardbody. Then my '86 firebird was 5 spd... Not hard at all, If you can play video games you can drive a stick..

I learned to drive when I was about 12 or 13 years old out on some land we have. AWAY from any other drivers or hazards, my dad MADE me drive the first time. He said "Son it's time you learn to drive." and he didn't give me a choice, he sat there and explained everything to me and then I learned how to drive in a '93 Toyota supercab 4x4 pickup...and yes it was a manual, and yes it was frustrating the first time, but then it became FUN! :twisted: My first truck was an auto, my second was a stick, my third was an auto, my fourth was an auto, and my box is an auto. I liked driving the stick in the Silverado I had, but it became a pain in the ___ when you're driving and someone calls you on your cell right as you need to shift...or you're trying to do anything else in a car that requires one hand, and the other needs to be on the wheel. And if you ever get stuck in traffic, it will be hell on your clutch leg. To tell you the truth, with these cars, there's not going to be a big difference between auto and stick, it's not going to be as noticeable as a Vette or anything high performance.

But hell, to each their own...you may love it, you may hate it. Oh and you don't NEED to drive...you WANT to drive. It's not like you have a job and need to commute to work everyday.

I taught my wife to drive a stick when she moved in with me. Everything we own now is manual. We both prefer them. I taught her how to drive a stick in under an hour. When we were done she was starting from a dead stop on hills with gravel roads. You want to drive & that is fine. I've been driving regurly for 16 years and a stick shift for 13 years. I was the same way and wanted to drive by myself at your age. I got my permit at 14 (I live in arkansas) but that means you have to drive with an adult supervising you in the car. When I turned 16 I got my licence and procedded to dumb stuff in cars. Its a wonder I survived. You can get a hardship license at 14 here also but that means you have to PROVE you NEED to drive. Basicly you come from a low income family in a rural area and you are only allowed to drive to school and work. If your going to get a licence you need a job and insurance. Unless your one of those lame kids who expects Mom & Dad to get you a car and pay for all your crap. Buy a repair manual and some tools so when you want that AEM intake or to add some bling to ride you don't have to pay someone else. My first ride was a '79 Blazer with a 454 and 44" super swampers on it. I learned how to work on cars out of neccesity. 44" tires and big tires + a 16 year old driver = a lot of broken parts. Low cash + broken parts = do it yourself. Dad tought me good though he said ok son heres the tools I have go get a repair manula and have fun. You you need anymore tools you'll need to borrow them or buy them yourself. LOL you should see the crap I've collected over the years!

 

Pleeese.. don't get on whether the kid can drive or not.. we don't know him/her..
I know a few 12 year old champion KART racers that have been driving -FAST- since the age of 6! They would EASILY rip ANY of us to shreds on the track.. and I drive SCCA! One of-em is even a girl.. They are all either NASCAR or FORMULA ONE bound! Kids can KICK ___ when taught well!
