Mileage obsession ???
[rant]
This has gone around and I did read about it already, but wanted to hear a different side.
Basically, do you normally get less MPG during the initial break in period? I only have 550 miles and have been putting around litterally. 70-75 freeway. Shifting 3g or below, etc... First tank I got 266 and put in 9 gallons. 2nd tank 270 and put in 10.
Not really close to the advertised 31-34... Rat bastards! Still love this little thing though...
BTW, it is still stock except the 18" wheels. I'm waiting for my springs, strut bar, intake and now exhaust to come in some time this week and next... The intake and exhaust should help some, but I should get advertised if not better stock, right?

I have about 1000 Miles on mine and im still not getting what they advertised it takes a while before you will get the milage they say you will get, I still get only 250 miles on a tank. Just wait it out and soon you will get more mile per gal.
I've only filled up my xB twice so far. The first tank, I calculated 32mpg with a split of 30/70 city/hiway driving. The second tank, virtually all city driving, came out to 28mpg. Still under 700 miles total on my xB, 5spd, all stock.
I'm getting between 28 and 31 in a mix of 75% city / 25% highway, manual transmission, stock wheels and no engine mods, and keeping the revs below 4500 almost always.
I think terrain has a lot to do with mileage; the Pittsburgh region is very hilly with lots of stop-n-go traffic. I'm happy with these results.

I've gotten consistently over 28MPG, even here in Albuquerque at about a mile altitude. I have just over 3,000 miles now and the last two in-town tanks were just over 30MPG. Thats with an xB, automatic and running the A/C most of the time. Can't wait for a road trip to see how it does on the highway!

Here is a graph that the Department of Energy put out. It shows how quickly your gas mileage will drop off when you drive over 60 mph.

Just over 13k on the box, automatic. Getting 28 city, 31 hwy. Probably would get better on hwy but usually cruise around 85. Seems to just have a nice hum at that speed.
Not stomping on the gas either in the city, but yet it seems like I'm leaving 90% folks behind on take off.
All stock, and only mod was the ground wire kit. Made a nice difference.

my first tank yielded 29.35 MPG's. after that I installed by header and exhaust along with the AEM CAI. second tank yielded 34.65 MPG's. Don't know if there is a correlation between the increased mileage and the Mods. or is the engine breaking in. Driving habits have a lot to do with MPG's. I am not heavy on the gas and tend to coast to stop signs and lights. My girlfriend tends to be heavy on the gas until shes needs to brake very hard, the mileage on her box ( we both bought at the same time) has been less than 30 MPG's thus far. Take this all for what it's worth, but I am looking forward to mid 30's as the norm for my box and my driving style. in any case the box is a blast to drive-so enjoy!

Alloy wheels are usually lighter then steel wheels, right?
If anything the 18" allow wheels I have should be maybe equal to the stock steel wheel. The circumference is very similar to the stock wheel & tire combo:
Stock tire: 185/60-15
Sidewall: 4.4
Radius: 11.9
Diameter: 23.7
Circumf: 74.6
Rev/Mi: 850.0
New tire: 215/35-18
Sidewall: 3.0
Radius: 12.0
Diameter: 23.9
Circumf: 75.2
Rev/Mi: 843.0
I can't find out how much my wheels actually weigh. They are M-Line D2 Wheels by Modern Concept... Can't google them either. Only one place comes up with little info.

the sticker mpg is listed "generously"...
the avg i get and which seems to be the trend is between 260-280 before the light comes on.
thats the main factor of me purchasing my box.. is to get those miles... unfortunately, its not 100% true... look at the range on the sticker that came with the car.. pretty wide range.
freeway = more mpg (unless you drive 90+ like me) =P

THEN, once data is submitted and tabulated, can a reasonable conclusion be drawn.
It is my contention that a totally stock xB will get the advertised MPG (or reasonably close when factoring in driving style and conditions).
