Default MPGs vs. Tire Pressure

I heard recently that having the correct tire pressure can increase gas mileage(DUH!). But What is the correct tire pressure??? Is it the one on the tires or the one on the inside of the Drive's side door? There is a huge difference in these numbers.

Can you please share what your MPG is vs. tire pressure. Please include tire radius.

Thanks for the help.

Technicallym it;s one in the Door Jam...if you have the stock tires 185/60/15.

Ideally, it's better to have your pressure higher though, for better gas mileage. I keep my stock tires around 32psi. I haven't noticed any unusual wear of the tires at 32psi.

of course, if you go too high with psi, then you can have uneven wear in the tires.

Correct. That is what Toyota recommends.

What is on the tire is the max recommended by the tire maker.

I have the stock tires and have them set at 38psi, which did add another MPG when compared to 32psi. I have a tread depth gauge and have no uneven wear after almost 30K miles. I rotate every other oil change.

32 psi is what we put in customers cars at our dealership...

For the xB you will be safe as long as you stay between 35-38 psi in the stock tires. No Problems!

Good advice here so far. The pressure listed on your tire sidewall is normally the max inflation pressure. You could run it if you wanted too, but I got a feeling it would ride a "little" rough. I'm happy so far with 32-34 psi in our xBs; one with stock 185/60R15s and the other with 195/60R15s.

For the daily driver crowd...I drive approx 85 miles a day, the vast majority of that is highway miles. I had my tires around 36-37 psi (I dont remember exactly what they were at but I had them on the higher side for increased mileage) and I had major uneven tire wear, the outer tire didnt wear as much as the inner or center of the tire tread. Higher tire pressure does help increase gas mileage but the cost of 4 new tires pales in comparison to your meager fuel savings.

I'm running the tires now at 32-34 psi.

I may back my pressures down too. I only drive the xB for fun so I might as well get the best ride.
