Default My "new" Xb (a 2005)

I bought a 2005 Xb on Monday (3/31/0.
It is an Automatic, in black, with darken windows, and has about 54k miles on it. Came with aftermarket 15" rims and mixed tires -Goodyear in the front, and Futura in the back (both P185s)

After 3 days of driving it, I am now starting to get excited about it. :D

What took you so long?!??

Its a blast to drive, you will love it. It gets the looks and great mileage. Gas here in Cali is $3.60 ish for cheapest regular.

Enjoy SL. There is a lot of great people and info here!

Cabin filter...do a search, there are posts to DIY and save yourself the dealership gouging.

Default Welcome

Add a Zeta armrest, Progress Rear swaybar and new Monroe shocks in the rear -and you will really love your XB. All relatively inexpensive upgrades.

Well, I've been thinking about getting one for the past 2 years.
- Had to wait until my 1993 Saturn Wagon (SW2) was ready for the junk yard. The Saturn turned 175,000 this past Monday... the day when I decided it was too unsafe to drive any longer. I suspect the 3+ day delay is due to the shock of getting another car RIGHT NOW.

On the positive side....
After I used 3/4 of the tank full of questionable gasoline that the dealer had filled it up with, I filled it up with SUNOCO 87 (Regular) and bombed up towards Hartford.

I was running late for a morning concert and had my wife and 9 yr old boy with me in the car. "Indicated" speeds varied between 75 - 80 mph. So, I was pleased to see that the fuel burn of 7 gallons (US) translated into 31.5 MPG.

I have ordered new spark plugs per a suggestion on SL - and am getting 4 NGK IRIDIUM IX BKR5EIX-11 Spark Plugs 5464.

I have no idea what sort of oil the dealer put into the car. However, it is very clean.

When I install the spark plugs later this week, I will change the oil over to Mobil 1 Synthetic. I will also change the oil filter to what used to be called "NAPA GOLD" (made by WIX). NAPA may be marketing it now as their "NASCAR" filter.

I am planning to come down to the gathering in Mamaroneck, NY tomorrow [Sunday, 4/6/08], arriving around 1 pm.
- I'll be the guy in a black box with a bright yellow cap that has WA1SFH on it (same as my CT Lic Plate).

Come up and say "Hello", if you see me.

Yay, +1 for auto tranny!

Be sure to do the DIY cabin air filter!

Default Wix

If you like the NAPA filters - go to rockauto.com - they sell the Wix brand - same filter - and their prices are better. The key to the gas mileage is to keep the rpms no higher than 3000 - any higher and it drops off pretty quickly.

On Sunday and Monday (today), I kept the indicated speed to between 55-60 mph. The tach was generally around 2,200.

5 Gallons used translated into 35.4 MPG !

This is reminding me of the mid/late 1970's when my 1976 Toyota Corolla (1171 cc?) was getting 35 mpg all day, everyday.

Congrats!

We actually bought 2005 xB's on the same exact date

Mine is a 5-speed and had 32k miles and some after market stuff like Konig wheels, exhaust, tyc tail lights and I haven't been more excited about a vehicle since!

I share your happy feelings haha

I have an 05... of course I bought it in 05. HA! Anyway I have 32k miles on the thing (no i don't drive much) and I love it as much as I did on day one. I ordered it new with no options and really haven't done much other than hotchkis springs, energy upper link bushing and new tires. Sure some stereo stuff but not much is really necessary to really enjoy the car.

I drove my brothers 2003 BMW 330 Ci and though I know the BMW is a world class sedan... I prefer the XB. I like the lighter feel and with the suspension mods I have it feels tighter. Maybe i'm just used to it but the XB really is too nice a car for what they cost. Good for all of us.

^^ I felt the same way...xB has a lot of options for such a low price. And I like my box as much or more than my wife's C-Class!

Default No AC !!

POOP!
We had a 70+ degree day this past week (Thursday?).
I went to turn on the AC and....
Button Light went on, but..
NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED!

* No engagement of compressor... NOTHING.
Just nice warm air blowing in with the fan.

Going to talk to the dearer (non scion/toyota) who sold me this car tomorrow and see if he is willing to make it right.
