Need advice on possible bad gas incident..
hey everyone.. my box is in the shop following a possible bad gas (from Mobil) incident. I wrote about it in detail here:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...741&highlight=
the short summary is as follows...
ran low on gas
filled up with regular gas (87) at mobil
>1 mile later engine stalls and dies.
further attempts only produces heavy knocking before engine failure
dealer says possibly water in the gas
car towed to neary dealership..
repair guy says sounds like "bad gas" and is not covered under warrenty.
repairs may cost as much as 1000$.
Some of my friends say that the engine... even repaired... might never be the same again. If I have to pay for it (i doubt i'll be successful suing mobil)... should I just try to get an engine swap? what's the possibility of getting coverage under insurance? Anyone know anything about this? bad gas or getting water in the engine?
oh my car is an 05 xb with less than 6000 miles on it...
I should find out tomorrow exactly what is wrong with the car... I"m praying for something warrentable but I highly doubt that it will be...

My advice: (not to sound like an ___) Keep this within one post, why post two to talk about the exact same ordeal? Yeah, it sucks about what happend but your making it out to be some huge ordeal when its not. The station you went to obviously sucked so don't go there again. Its this sort of talk that starts rumors on this site, and everyone that knows nothing about this sort of stuff panic. Suing mobil would do no justice. You are suing a major company, people get gas from them all the time im sure. You are one of thousands that just so happen to get screwed over. As i said before, its the station not the gas. Period. Also, keep this in one forum!!!
Sounds to me that your friends don't know WTF they are talking about. You will have to drain your tank, blow out the fuel lines with compressed air, change your fuel filter, and clean your injectors. If you pay someone to do it, Grap yo ___! After this your engine should be ok. Your computer shut you down. Been there and done it.
this thread was not intended to be anti-mobil... I just needed to know what to do about the repair... hence it being here... the car gets evaluated tomorrow... and I'd like some advice on what to do (if the engine will be back up to snuff.. then I see no problems). And yes I don't fully trust everything my friends say (unless they are mechs)... which is why i'm double-checking the info here.
The other thread is anti-mobil... but it pertains to my local area not to everyone elses (where things might just be different).

do you have a receipt from getting gas at that station???
you will need to have a sample tested of your gas...
if poss. test the gas from the station...
if it was bad gas....big if...
more than just you would have had a problem...find the others...
if you plan on sueing Mobil, the burden is on you to prove it was their gas and that station....

To me, sueing a major company sounds too time consuming and pricey. You'd probably end up paying more money sueing Mobil than it would cost to fix your car. I would just pay your dues, move on, and avoid that particular station. Yeah it sucks, but shi*t happens. I don't mean to be harsh, I'm just saying it like it is...
