Default Need Help! Electrical issues getting worse

1. About 2 years ago my drivers side door lock stopped working from key fob.

2. 6 months later the dome light started blowing. I would replace it and sometimes it would last for a day, sometimes 4 months.

3. The lights on my shifter would stop working and when I tapped it hard the lights would come back on. Then later go off again so like a bad connection.

4. 1 year ago i installed a new stereo and worked fine for months and then stopped for 3 days, then worked again.

5 Most recent and worst of all was yesterday, I turned the car off went into a store came back out and it wouldnt start. It was turning over but wouldnt start. I came back about 3 hours later and it started up. But then the radio stopped working for almost 24 hrs! LOL WTH!!! Any Suggestions? Im scared its going to leave me stranded somewhere.

I hope you got the platinum warranty. That covers all electrical issues. If not, you're looking at a big bill for all that. That's why you always get the warranty. Should never buy a car if you can't afford the extra stuff.

Check your grounds and connections, bad grounding can cause all these problems. you said you have a new stereo, check over your wiring for possible shorts and bad connections. Do you have subs? they can cause intermittent shorts from all the bumping. The car not starting and then will three hours later sounds like your battery is no holding a good charge. check the levels on your battery. good luck.

All of these sound like corroded connections. For the door lock try taking the door card off and disconnect/reconnect everything(this could rub th corrosion off the pins). For the dome light(as mentioned) check your grounds and every connection as well as the bulb socket. Same for the shifter light. When your radio was installed did you use crimps or actually solder the connections(like you should). Crimp on connections are usually a bad(well, not bad but not the best) way to do things. Your best bet would be to take the harness adapter out and take out the crimps and solder everything. If it was soldered then you might still have a bad connection if the solder wasn't heated enough or bad solder was used so it wouldnt be a bad idea to reheat all the connections with an iron, but this is highly unlikely.

You'll have to elaborate on the no start. Any lights, power, sounds from the engine bay?

All those items should be unrelated. Since it doesn't appear they are, I'll take a stab & guess your car might be a Hurricane Katrina flood victim.

Ok so its been running just fine for 2 days...... But today i drove it already a couple times, cranked it the last time pulled out of my driveway saw a friend and pulled over to talk to him. I was sitting idle for about 10 min no problem. Then we said our goodbyes, I put it in drive hit the gas and it died down as i tried to accelerate so i went about 15 feet and i pushed the gas again and it completely died. Then from there it was just like the first time but it did sputter a little while trying to crank it and then no sputtering. Pushed it back into the driveway. I left in my truck, came back about 3 hours later, got in it, turned the key and it started right up. So im thinking its the fuel filter??? Like its building up trash as it pumps till its completely clogged then after it sits for a couple hours the trash falls back down and is able to get fuel again. Until it eventually does it again. What do you think? Or could it be a O2 sensor?

I read this thread but doesnt sound like the same problems im having. It doesnt idle bad, maybe a little more ruff then when i first got it but not too bad. I will try seafoam first and see if that does anything. But it either just wont start or just dies without warning.

Hello CriisZilla,

Did the replacement CPS work for you?

My car is also experiencing what looks like electrical issues. I'm wondering if a bad CPS can drain the battery. I am also having an issue with the crank position sensor.
