I almost have Scott's fiberglassing stock grille project done. I have about $12 invested. It looks really good and gave me an excuse to paint the grille black.

Appearance aside, there's one really good scientific reason why drums are painted with thin, thin black paint: To maximize the emissivity of the drum.

See, black objects radiate heat best of all the colors.
The paint is thin because even black paint acts a bit like a blanket. So, the thinner the better.

OTOH, our little boxes don't stress the rear brake drums with all that much heat in casual driving.

BUT if you want the most fade resistance in your drum brakes you won't want to paint them at all. Just a wash of thin black at most.

I think you have it backwards. Black absorbs heat better, not dissipates heat better. For optimum cooling, white would be the color of choice. Then again, any coating would be thickening the drum, giving it an extra thermal insulator.

Painted Drums: This fad was all the rage in the 70's and 80's but back then you didn't have a lot of color choices so they usualy ended up ither Chevy Orange, or Ford Blue because those were the only high heat colors we could get. Black came later, and was adopted to keep the drums from rusting.

As for heat removal and color That was the theory behind the black engine block painting. The heat removal thing isn't a huge isue, the cost of Pigment is more the reason for the Balck engine. The color of your drums and calipers is not going to have an apriciable effect on brake drum cooling.

I say any color you think looks good is the color you should paint them. You have to clean them not me. Enjoy.

As for the Sign the rear hatch thing, there is a guy in the Miata club I run with who had every Major designer from Mazda that worked on the Miata sign the inside of his trunk lid. It is kind of cool when you know what it is. He got it done at diffrent Miata events where he found them. I have also seen Salen Mustangs Signed dy Steve Salen, he won't sign them when they leave the factory, you have to bring them back to him. He does this so that he can meet the owners in person.

A simple one is to pull out and reverse the position on the back seat seatbelt retaining clips. This way they are held inplace better when you fold the seats up or down.

yep, they take some finagaling (is that even a word?), so becareful you don't break them. The fit is a bit tight reversed, but it only takes a minute or two for each, no tools need.
