Default Need some convincing...

So I've been intrigued by the scion xb for a little over a year now...really been looking into it. I'm finally at the point where it's somewhat affordable...I have my car paid off, and $1,000.00 for a down payment. I was driving by the scion/toyota dealership near my home, when I finally saw an XB in person......I immediately pulled over to check it out. They had a used 2004 manual xb, and a new 2006 automatic xb. I test drove the 2004 and LOVED it. The new one was outta my price range, well higher than I wanted to spend at around 15k. THe 2004 had 11k miles on it and was going for $13,995.00. I gave it some hard thought and decided I'd make an offer of $13,000.00 on the used one....but by then it was sold. Really I'm just looking for some convincing that a brand new xb is worth the extra few thousand bucks.

it's worth it. besides any used xb for as cheap as you say is very , very hard to find. hell they normally sell for a lot more used than new.

For what you need to pay for a used XB I think you are better off with a new one.Get it basic and add the things you want at a later date.Get one they are a great buy and tons of fun to drive.

Default well worth it

The worst thing that could happen is that if you couldn't afford and you had to sell it - probably for more than you paid for it to begin with, you would make money. We price shopped for a long time before buying our xB, we almost always found t hat new was cheeper than used.
Plus then, you can make it your own. Do a few little mods here and there , or none at all. either way it's a fantastic buy! You won't be sorry

Don't buy a used xB - they are overpriced and could depreciate quickly to a more natural level.

A new 2006 manual xB is $14,500. If you pay $13,500 or $13,000 for a two year old xB with 11,000 miles on it, you are buying a used car for almost the price of a new one. Dealers can do that because demand is so high now.

The value of your old $13,000 used xB could drop very quickly over the next year. If you are stretching to afford a late model used car, you should not be buying into the hot market for used xBs.

Go new.

1. There's nothing like a brand new car that no one else has used
2. The depreciation on them is very low right now so it's a better financial decision. There are 2 reasons why people by used, a. to get a car as cheap as possible, b. to get a car without as much depreciation (most new cars lose several thousand in value once you buy it).
3. You don't have to worry about the possiblity that the previous owner abused the car
4. You have full warranty.

My wife and I are going to buy one in a few months as well, and we decided new was a much better deal. We were taking into account the warranty, the fact that you KNOW that it has been maintained correctly, etc. The only thing I might get at the dealership is the alloy wheels, but aftermarket wheels are cheaper. As Scotty said, get the stuff you want after you get the car... OEM Scion parts are sometimes half the price online!

Get it and have fun!

TO BUY ALL SCION OPTIONS DIRT CHEAP:

GO TO WWW.IRONTOAD.COM AND THANK ME LATER!!!

sorry for the caps - I saved a few hundred dollars by going to irontoad for my options (mats, arm rest, rear bumper applique, rear cargo cover, cargo net, etc)!!! it's important to get these things after you get your car - NOT FROM THE DEALER - unless you like bending over and receiving it.

We bought a new one becuase the used ones were not so much cheaper. In fact, they seemed more expensive. Can anyone explain this?

While checking out scion.com I've built the scion how I'd want it. From what I've messed with I see these features as neccessary for my happiness.

Polar White
Manual

Tail Light upgrade
B pillar applique
Fog lights
Scion security
Center Armrest
Door sill enhancement
Floor and Cargo mats
Stock Pioneer Head unit
6 spoke wheel covers

1.Can any of these be purchased elsewhere for cheaper?

2.Which of these have to be installed by me? I'm very confused because the dealer said the price on the site includes installation, but the site says that the prices vary by dealership.....also have seen that people on this forum have been screwed with insallation fees....

3.Any of these features I picked silly and not needed?

4.Any features ya'll recommend that I didnt include?

5.The molded dash...does anyone have pictures of xb's with and w/out it?

....Then on to my next sets of questions.

6.Can the financing and such be done all online, or do i have to visit the dealer?

7.When agreed and financed, how long must I wait?

8.Do payments actually start before I get my xb?

9.I plan to trade in my car, is this done upon financing, or when I get my xb?

10.I've got a 1997 pontiac sunfire gt 2dr, power sunroof power locks and windows....pretty good shape 115k miles.....I doubt I'll get more than $1,000.00...but anyone know a ballpark on what I should get for it? I've been told just to sell it in the paper...but I really don't want to have to go through the wheeling and dealing and haggling....I just want an XB lol.

Anyways I'm sure I'll have more questions later, thanks in advance for all the replies, and the help with my questions....hopefully I'll be meeting up with ya'll soon in my own xb.

totally. look at it this way, the 2004 with 11k miles you saw sold for nearly the same that a new one would sell for.

Polar White Good choice :D
Manual

Tail Light upgrade
B pillar applique
Fog lights
Scion security
Center Armrest
Door sill enhancement
Floor and Cargo mats
Stock Pioneer Head unit
6 spoke wheel covers

1.Can any of these be purchased elsewhere for cheaper? Of course

2.Which of these have to be installed by me? I'm very confused because the dealer said the price on the site includes installation, but the site says that the prices vary by dealership.....also have seen that people on this forum have been screwed with insallation fees.... Nothing has to be installed by you, check with your local dealer as far as any fees.

3.Any of these features I picked silly and not needed? Well the cosmetic options like appliques are obviously not needed, just look nice.

4.Any features ya'll recommend that I didnt include? Your list sounds good to me

5.The molded dash...does anyone have pictures of xb's with and w/out it? Sorry no picture, anybody else?

....Then on to my next sets of questions.

6.Can the financing and such be done all online, or do i have to visit the dealer? Visit the dealer if you're doing it through them, or a bank of your choice.

7.When agreed and financed, how long must I wait? They'll probably tell you 4-6 weeks... it all depends on where you are.

8.Do payments actually start before I get my xb? No.

9.I plan to trade in my car, is this done upon financing, or when I get my xb? It may depend on the dealer, but they didn't want my trade-in till I was leaving with the xB.

This is where you can play a little with the price, said I wanted to just trade it right in but after they gave me a price I said I wanted to see what I could get privately... 5 minutes later he came out with a more appealing offer :D

Anyways I'm sure I'll have more questions later, thanks in advance for all the replies, and the help with my questions....hopefully I'll be meeting up with ya'll soon in my own xb.

Everyone of these parts can be bought cheaper from www.trdsparks.com. The only reason I can see buying from the dealer is if you cant afford to buy the parts and want to include them in your financing, if thats not the case I would buy them aftermarket.
