Default New guy to the group w/Windshield issues / questions

I just wanted to say hello to the group. I just bought my first Scion xB. It's a 2004 with just under 40K miles on it.

The previous owner has placed a 'clear bra' on my windshield. Do many people here use these? Also today while washing it for the first time I had some water on the inside of the windshield run down right over the rear view mirror. Since the windshield is about mint I am going to see if I can just get the thing re-sealed.

If I have to replace the windshield cause the repair tech is a 'hack' does any one know where I can order online another windshield clear bra?

Thanks for your help and I am sure it's going to be fun getting to learn more about my car and helping peeps along the way....

I didnt know they made this for the xB. I wouldnt installl a piece of vinyl on my windshield as it would scratch real easy. Thats the whole point of having glass there as it doesnt scratch as easy.

I say just wait to have the windshield resealed because if you know anything about our cars, you'll need a new windshield soon enough anyways !!!

The previous owner probably had what we all (or most of us) have had.... chips and/ or a cracked windshield.

Welcome and don't worry, you aren't alone on your windshield concerns.

Yeup, I just replaced mine with a Fuyao Windshield.. It's hard to find but it's worth it. When it rains you can barely hear the water tapping. I also added a xB OEM front vinyl bra, this seems to "slow" down the rocks and prevents a few chips. Other than that, this is one thing we pay for having such "cool" cars The only downside to the xB vinyl bra is that it scratches up the hood a little bit, but I've buffed mine out with some products so it's all gravy.

So I agree with Davetoaster, save your money and just get it resealed, you might want to find a place that takes insurance, maybe you can get it resealed at little or no cost at all. Welcome to the family!!

Clear bra material is not optically clear enough for use on the windshield. I'd just pull it off and actually see out of it clearly. Not sure of the legalities but I would bet they are not legal either.

Ohter than the windshield I LOVE this thing! Tons of room inside! I have 2 kids and they both fit in the back. I just got out of a hatchback. I think this is my first 4 door since having kids come to think of it.

The wife has a gas hog - so the gas bill is this is nice too!

I have a manual trans and it seems to be going great, I am about to hit 40K in the next few days so I need to look at services that should be done.

As for the 'Clear Bra' on the glass - I am going to pull it off this weekend. We had our first snow strom since I bought this and WOW that plastic film is GONE! Its' scratched all to heck.

I'm glad I found this forum! Everyone seems to super helpful and happy! Nice change from places I used to chat
