Why not raise the driver side of the car so all the oil will go to the passenger side where the drain plug is?
If you read my post ... i raise the passenger side where the plug and filter are. But once either of them are out i lower the car again to allow the oil to flow towards the opening.

Got it. Then you raise the passenger side again to put the plug back in.

Love the idea of your board ramp vintage42. I assume you only use one ramp for oil changes? I ask because you answered my other question—which side should be higher so as to drain oil from the pan mo betta?—except that the pic shows the board under the pass wheel.

For my board I'll add a 2" x 2" x 8" wheel stopper so that I don't accidentally bend the end straps and run off the end and perhaps a 1/2" high strip so I'll know that when the car pases over it it's time to brake.

All these tips are exactly what I was hoping for. My appreciation.

Can anyone verify the size of the oil drain plug threads (the drain plug valve company say the xB's is 13MM), and, the socket wrench size of the OEM drain plug?

I always use two ramps. The two boards shown give enough height for oil changes, and for transmission oil changes I slip a loose square board under the end, as shown below. The end straps have provided a strong stop even for our Buick LeSabre, help keep the weight down, and are a good hand hold when dragging the heavy ramps.

Got it. Neat idea.

I take it you're not concerned with tipping the body a bit so as to cause the oil to drain towards the drain hole?

Thanks muchly,

Kerry

TIP - Pull your dipstick up before pulling the drain plug. This allows air in and prevents 'gurgles' as the oil drains.

TIP - Once you do the oil change a few times, you will see that there is no reason to raise your box. As long as you can fit your arm under the bumper, you can change your oil filter and remove the plug. That said, every other change I like to drive up on my ramps and have a good look around (i.e. drive boot/leaks/damage/etc.) to make sure everything is kosher. Easier to prevent a problem than to fix it

TIP - Concerned about oil splashes on your driveway? I cut a large plastic trash bag up the side in order to make a large plastic sheet. Lay this down and then your drain pan/tools on top of it to keep the wind from blowing it around.

Thanks HeathenBrewing,

I got lazy and have been having my changes done on my up-for-sale '97 Saturn. It's refreshing to see all these tips, reminds me of all the steps.
