Scion would recommend taking the vehicle to the dealer or certified mechanic for diagnosis of the vehicle. ^AP

So how have you been driving it if you get it into drive and it shuts off? Or haven't you been able to drive it? Or do you drive with the door ajar? Reason I ask if you have driven it is because I want to see how it shifts gear to gear. It's like one of your solenoids in your transmission that shifts is causing a short when electrical current is delivered causing everything to die. Hmm... I mean, you gotta get it checked out unless your legit enough to tear that puppy apart which is what I would do. Original xB's are easy to work on. But yeah, if its a solenoid, that transmission is done, otherwise, if its electrical from the the solenoids, that can be fixed, which is what I am thinking it is. Actually, I'm pretty sure its a grounding issue. It can't complete its curcuit fully like it should because of lack of ground. Check that out, let me know.

Really buickid? Do you not read the other posts? I certainly don't when there's 45 pages, but if there's only two other posts, see what the other people say. I told the dude what's wrong. "...reverse lights"... come on man...

i have been driving it. it drives perfect!!

it only turns off when i switch after my first selection..
like if i put in reverse from park first, and then i try to put it in drive. the car completely dies
the only way car does not shut off is if i open the door, then car can be switched gears with no problem

so its either a bad ground or a short at the solenoid or a bad tranny

ps no check engine light on

Default xB Problem

Okay, sounds like you're on the right track on getting the problem diagnosed. If it was me I'd take it to a mechanic sooner than later. It'll be great if you don't have to replace the tranny, then you'll be all set!

Think about it.

How could a drivers door have anything to do with an engine? Your engine is usually fail safe. And even if the computer fails, you still have a limp home mode.

Unless..........

Maybe someone wired in an after market alarm and the door switch wiring has something to do with the anti-theft part of the engine cut-out through the alarm module.
