Default OIL CATCH RESERVOIR

Would someone please explain the benefits of installing an oil catch reservoir? Is it worth it? Thanks.

It helps keep deposits from forming in your motors intake track. And for thoose who say it is just for looks HA HA HA my XB has only had a catch can on for 7500 miles and guess what its catching OIL BUD!!!!!

supposedly catches dirty oil..
It replaces the factory breather system (aka crankcase vent system) with a can and a vent to atmosphere. The factory setup returns the vented gas to the intake manifold, so that any oil vapors in the vent are burned by the engine instead of dumped into the atmosphere.

If it's catching enough to be noteable, (or to cause deposits in the case of not having a can installed), you might have a problem somewhere.

Otherwise, the tiny amount of oil that's generated in the breather system of a street car is probably a good thing for your intake valve seats.

That said, if someone wants one for looks, more power to 'em.

As Boxman stated, it catches the oil, whatever the amount, before it enters the intake. Toyotas are known for oiling the intake and I had Oil Catch Cans on both of my Celicas in the 80s.

If someone doesn't think its works, I'll take a pic of the hose that used to be clear.

well I believe that it works since I think in the manual somewhere it mentions the breather hose returning oil back to the engine via the air intake.

my question would be is that a bad thing? and why?

Yes, that is true. The oil vapor in the vent system is normally dumped back into the intake. Is that a terrible thing? Well, that's the configuration on *every* current production car I can think of. Again, this is a small amount of oil vapor mixed in with the air vented from the crankcase we're talking about. It's not like an actual oil line is plumbed directly into your intake. ;)

my brother has one in his car and all i can see is that it catches oil vapor as far as i know. theres a tube that shows how much oil is in the can but theres nothing inside and he has been using it about a year now.

heres a pic of his oil catch can (behind the strut bar). you can see that the tubes connecting from the air intake to the engine is just oil vapor...

This "AZZ" is just smarter than you so it just seems that way,,,,, kinda like an optical illusion! Why not just step up to the plate, admit you were the dumdass that bought one and it doesn't do jack except look nice. And be sure to tell how much you paid and if you would do it again. Sorry to have to call a spade a spade but that's the way I see it.
