There's allot of room between the firewall and the block, heat shouldn't be much of a problem.
Unless you're installing a header there's no reason to remove it.
If you do install a header, a ceramic coated one helps keep heat down.

It's mainly for noise suppression anyway. You're ok.

It's called a "hood silencer" and it's just there to lessen engine noise. It's ok to remove it.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to remove it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that he was referring to the insulation underneath the hood, not the cover on the top of the engine.

The engineers put it there for a reason.. removing it will probably cause a problem with something else

I promise, the hood silencer is only there to cut down on engine noise......nothing else. It's ok to remove it......really.

No paint issues, heat problems, ect., ect.

If you are talking about the stuff attached to the underside of the hood, Jennay of the new york scioNRG group has mirrors in place of that stuff. I think she had each of the "shapes" cut and mounted inbetween the supports under the hood. you might want to ask her about it. Her sn is Jennay

On alot of cars that is there in case of engine fire. The plastic pins melt and drop the black "blanket" on the engine to help put out the fire. Or so I've been told. I'd probably leave it.

I would remove and not worry about it. I have done this on other vehicles, and a scion and had no problems.

I also had questions about this too because I have a top mounted turbo, and the previous owners basically cut out a section of that insulation which I guess is where the turbo touches, I can tell because it also looks like the insulation has melted a little on the edges...I think it would be safer to remove the insulation altogether...but with my turbo and the extra heat, I wonder if I'll start seeing the paint flaking off at that area?
