Default Overhead Console mod (pictures)

Here is a little mod I put in my 2006 xB. Overhead lights plus sun glass holder. When any door opens, hatch included both lights go on, when the doors close they go off. Also each individual light will work when they are pressed when doors are closed.

I want to thank fellow member KOALATY2 who painstakingly walked me through the wiring in this project. Thanks very much KOALATY2.

It came out of a Toyota Camry. The grey is a perfect match and no it's no crooked. It must be the camera angle.

I have the same console I've been waiting to install, but mine was from a 4Runner. I want to put it farther forward, to fill the space between the visors (just barely fits...)
Please do a write up, want to be sure of what I'm doing before I cut up the headliner

this should be about the same as the rear dome light install...look it up in the tech section and pretty much follow the same instructions as in that...i am going to look for a console like this one to do in my box because it is so secksay...

might also want to do this...
1. Get a cardboard box (to act as your headliner)

2. cut little by little until your console fits flat (pretty much just cut as little as you can for the console to fit flat and snug on the cardboard...

3. use that cardboard as a template so you know what to cut in the headliner. (make sure it is centered and exactly where you want it)

4. Draw with a sharpee or pencil the outline of the template

5. use an exacto knife to cut along the lines you just drew...

now as for securing it i am not sure but that would probably be your best bet on how to get the correct size hole and everything...its actually pretty simple.

If indeed you have the same unit it will not fit between the visors. Let me be more specific the unit will fit but it will not fit flush against the headliner and I am sure that is what you want. The header liner needs to be pulled down a little bit to accommodate the depth of the unit and the curves in the liner between the visors will not permit that. Between the visors was my first choice but I had to settle for further back.

That turned out really well. So many cars have the map light thing going on now, I'm surprised this wasn't stock.
