Default Problem turning over...

Is it just me or does th xB take unusually long to turn over? At first I thought it was just due to a new engine or something, but after 1000 miles it's still taking a while to turn over.

Most of the time my remote start can't even start it since it takes longer... is there anything I can do?

I agree, my 06 xB seems to take longer to start than my 96 Sunfire... I just got the box on the 10th, so I am still getting used to it, but I have let off of the key too early at least 3 or 4 times so far.

Take it in and get it checked out. My xB decided not to start up one day and I had to get a new fuel pump. Luckily, I can walk to my job. Warranty covered it, including the towing, but I wasted time having to go to and from the dealer.

My xA has similar starting pains. It takes about 6 or 7 of the starting noises (I assume it's a turn of the starter, itself) for the engine to catch and keep running, and this is regardless of service state. Even with a clean air filter and fresh oil and a full tank of gas, it really doesn't like to start in the morning. Of course, it's probably colder here than it is where most of you are...

I talked to one of my friends and he said that this is usually the case with a weak starter. He told me smaller engines (4cyl) sometimes have weak starters that aren't especially strong due to the smaller engine size.

That's my dumbed down, "engine idiot" version of what he said... but he said you can replace the starter with a more powerful one for fairly cheap.

Can someone confirm this who knows more about engines?

Mine seems like it takes a little longer when it's cold out. Never really stressed about it.

No that's the sound of the alarm clock waking up the squirrels. They, like us, seem to have a harder time waking up on a cold morning.

I'm not talking about only in cold weather. I live in San Diego, and it does it even during 85 degree weather... I'm going to swing by the dealership and ask them about it I guess.

^BUMP^

Anyone else have problems with it starting? I'm over 1k miles now, and it seems to be getting worse (might just be me). The remote start rarely kicks it over, and it just seems to be taking abnormally long. What's the story on an upgrade starter?

As soon as the weather dropped below forty, it started doing this. It's been in the 20s and it takes a bit (up to 8 or 9) before it turns over.

And the clutch does definietely get tempermental in the cold. Even weirder, I'll be in 2nd gear and the car will start engine braking for no reason until I push in the clutch. Only in cold weather, only in second gear, and only when first starting after 5+ hours in the cold.

Ah well.

It's honestly not that bad. . . what's a couple seconds cost ya? It's not like we're going to be tearing down the highway at 180MPH with all our horsepower!

I do miss my Lexus though. . . the starter sounded like a taser gun, and it would start nearly instantaneously.
