Rear door windows—make 'em go all the way down!
All right, so, you're probably thinking . . . "Why bother?" Well, on my trip to Victoria with my family this weekend, we took the xA, and when my dad lowered his window (he was sitting in the back-left), he commented that the window didn't go all the way down. Now, I hadn't noticed this yet, since I never bothered with those windows, but I was perturbed. My car isn't for hauling kids in the backseats! I should be able to have the windows go all the way down!
So, in my growing list of modifications I wish to make to my xA, I've "added" an entry "with a question mark"—Is it feasible to modify the rear section windows so that they don't stop two or three inches from the bottom? Is it possible, and if so, how much would it cost?

My guess is yes, and at a huge price. Youd have to lower the crank that raises/lowers the window. And get a larger, custom made, cut of glass. My personal opinion is th erear windows are useless. Lower them but not the front windows and drive above 40mph. Your ears will hurt badly.
you cannot do it. they cannot go much lower at all ( maybe less than an inch lower max ) because the glass does not have enough room to move down inside of the door. this is all because of the cut of the rear door.
the only way to do it would be to make the windo narrower aka . the rear of the window would be moved forward. probably a good 4 inches or so. so new sheetmetal and custom cut up window glass.

^^^ That's exactly right. The rear windows don't go all the way down on many cars today. It's not a safety feature. Like hotbox05 said, it's because of the shape of the rear doors. If you stand back and look at it, you'll see that because of the way the door is curved to match the rear wheel well, there just isn't enough room for the glass to go all the way down. The rear windows on the xB do go all the way down, but that's because the door is bigger, and only a small square actually rolls down.
Rear windows in cars haven't gone down all the way sense they moved the rear axal under the back seat and moved the rear seat forward to save money at the expense of leg room without giving up trunk space. It also gives a four door more of a Cope look. It was a big selling point with people with kids so dealers started peadeling the safety thing. If you think your kid is stupid enough to try and climb out the window of a moving car lock the windows.

Actually, it is possible, but it would be expensive.
Notice that most cars that have an extra pillar in their windows (a seperator that creates two vertical panes) can roll their windows completely down. Cars that have single pane rear door windows usually can't. . . the reason is that by splitting the window into a smaller size (the moving part), you can lower the window completely.
Now the xA has a VERY oddly shaped door, so you would probably end up with a very small pane, but it would go down all the way.
