Default Roadtripping in da Box soon!

Next month, the family and I are taking a roadtrip to Tampa to visit her mom. I'm assuming it's gonna be about 20 something hours till we get there...

I know about the pros but what are the cons of taking the Box on a long roadtrip?

I'm gonna take the Axis wheels off and put the steelies back on for better road comfort while driving. Also, I don't have cruise control...

Give me some good advice on what I should take or not take on this 1st ever long trip for my xB...

Longest I've done is 7hrs straight and it was fine. I don't mind not having cruise.

its not that bad man, you will get used to not having cruise, I have put 109K on gothbox with no cruise, ha ha and drove to Philly and back with no cruise(18hr one way)

Take some zip ties, a cushion, some tunes, elc tape, small tool kit, etc.

I know you, and you will change the oil, and check everything before going, so just have fun and enjoy the drive.

Boxes have lots of room for a small ice chest and a bag of snacks. Find a place to hang a garbage bag, and you're set. I hate the drone of the box at high rpms, and I like to go slow on side roads, but that's not for everyone.

You should spice up your trip with a few oddball sights. Roadside America has a good variety of interesting places to visit.

Do what Gothbox said. I've got a small toolbox that I take on long trips. It's got duct tape, electrical tape, zip ties, wire coat hanger, rope, flares, trash bags, rags, flashlight, adjustable wrench, pliers, screwdriver, box cutter, fuel injector cleaner, first aid kit, probably some other junk.

I also take a pair of wiper blades (or inserts) because one of the ones on the car inevitably will start tearing if I'm unfortunate to drive in the rain for several hours straight. Hasn't happened on the box yet, but it happened on my previous vehicles.

Since you don't have cruise, you could try using a dowel rod or something to press on the gas pedal to give your foot an occasional rest. The vibration through the pedal can get tiring after a while.

And a big black sheet to cover up all your luggage and stuff in back so a thief isn't as tempted.

Drove from St. Louis to Gatlinburg and back last summer with my Axis wheels and no problems. Lost a little power on some steep roads in them hills though!
