Hey, Everyone....I have got a couple questions for anyone who can answer them....I recently placed an order for my box last tuesday and the dealership said it would be a 3 week wait.... Any idea if that is the soonest date i could get it or is that the most pushed ou date i could get it??? Also a ? about the fog lights.....this will be the first car that i have owned that has fog lights.....how do they work....(How to turn them on) do they turn on when you turn your headlamps on or is a seperate switch?? the salesman at my local toyota had no idea...his response was..."They just come on.." i was lik uhhh ok.....Also what is the standard manufactures warranty on the box???Do they offer extended????If so did anyone purchase the extended???

Thanks,
Chad

Default ...That wait sounds about average...

I can ansewr those questions.
The fog lights are a $385 dealer option. You also do not receive the body colored covers if you do order the fogs from the dealer.
They are set up to work only when the low beams are on. You can change this but it will not be legal in most states. There is a fog light switch on the dash, above the lighter. This must be turned on and fogs will light up whenever the low beams are on.

Buy the fogs aftermarket as I just did. $170 for the EOM lights.
Install is a breeze, the car is pre-wired for fog lights, so all I had to do is pull down the wire harness, connect to the light and place light in slot. Switch is also pre-wired, pull down connector, connect and place switch into first knock out dash plug.
There is a relay plug that you must put into a socket on the fuse box, you can do this, I did.

Get a box with no options. Every option can be gotten here or on e-bay cheaper.
This car is too good for an extended warranty, forget it. Buy something that you can use or at least see.

Hey, congrats on the xB purchase. I'll be ordering mine this week, hopefully on Wednesday. That wait sucks, I hope mine doesn't take that long to get here.

"In the wrapper," as far as I know, is used to describe something that is brand new, untouched, etc,. Since your xB was ordered and not traded, it sounds like, you'll be getting one fresh off the boat and therefore, relatively virginal.

Post up some pics when you get it.

Where in the BA are you at? I'm in North Bay.

Yeah I'll be sure and post what I hear from them. I'm getting a PW xB. Which trans did you go with? I didn't like the feel of the stick, so I'm going for the auto.

I'm in 707, Santa Rosa area. I'll be in Pleasanton later this year for the Goodguys West Coast Nats. Hopefully be driving the xB down there on the new suspension. What mods are you planning, if any?

Guys, go to Benicia and see your cars roll off the boat!! In the wrapper probably means the plastic covering they are shipped in. If you can afford it, it is cheaper to get your accessories from someone other than the dealer. Can't believe you guys want autos==but to each his own. Good luck with your boxes..............

I dont like the way that the stick drove....it didnt drive as well to me...... i mean if i was getting a dodge viper that has 400+hp i would get a stick but for a 105+hp box i believe an auto is just fine....

I've been looking at Goldlines, and STechs and HTechs from Tein. I think I'll go with the HTechs for now, it's low enough and there's a few steep concrete driveways I deal with every so often. I also dislike the camber look and the increased tire wear. My personal preferences.. anyway. What about you? I may go with Goldlines or some other 2"-/+ drop one day, but this will be a daily driver while I'm in college and working, be subject to road trips, camping trips, shooting trips, etc,. and I don't know what I'll come acrossed in other cities, but I don't want to be to low to deal with it when I get there. I just want to lose that wheel gap.

I'm going to keep the 15s for a while. I test drove an xB with the TRD/Hart 18s and I felt every bump, it wasn't a worse ride than the truck I have now, but it was translating from the wheels to me and my passenger too hard.

The stick wasn't terrible, it just didn't 'vibe' with me at the time. The speed difference between the manual and auto wasn't huge, and 103ish hp? It's a cruiser. The auto doesn't feel as fast as the stick, but both trannies are bolted to the same engine. No offense to the xB stick guys, the manual trans just didn't fit with what I have in mind for the xB. If I wanted speed and precision I would still buy the Cadillac CTS that was originally planned, but it's not worth the cost of gas.

Update:
I talked to my rep today at the dealership, he searched all the dealers in CA and found only 4 PW xBs. He's trading with that dealership and I should have my PW xB on Saturday, when I fill out the finance paperwork and such.

I figured I'd be waiting. Glad to be out from under the gas burden (almost).

I had a long list of options a couple weeks ago. I don't know much about lowering springs, but I HAVE hacked my options list down to foglights, knowing I could install them myself, but not really caring if I do or don't. Do a little bit of searching on the forum and online, the TRD springs might be great, but there's a great tech how-to with pics on swapping springs here, and you can get them cheaper at TRDSparks.com.

In any event, unless you're going to finance as much as you can to save immediate funds, I'd hold off and upgrade when you can afford it. I hacked 75 bucks off my monthly payment (estimated) by ditching options for the stuff I wanted in the LONG run, exhaust, intake, sway/strut bars, wheels, etc,. So now I'm paying a lot less for the car payment itself, which will a lot more money for mods once that payment check is written. Depends on how you're going about your buy, but if you're going solo on your contract, I'd really consider what you want NOW vs. what you want later. You might save some cash, and with the technology growth of the industry and all the aftermarket parts for the xB, you might find something that's better for less cash, even if you pay for an install.

Think about your end plan and consider the current options. PM me if you want, I think this thread would be dead if we weren't exchanging rounds..

Good choice for the PW xB. I got one too. Im located in Fairfield/Suisun 707 Area and I can say Im the only one in my area with a PW Modded box. For springs, I would just suggest something that you like or the drop you desire. I have Tein S-Tech and I love the drop. Also the ride feels great , feels like stock, a little more bumpy but still feels better than stock. . PM me for any other questions and ill email you guys pics. oh yeah I would post stuff in Pacific Mid forum too, you can find a lot of local people there too.

hey all....just to warn u guys, ur probably gonna laugh at me after reading this post....so here goes. i bought my xb last july and i got just all the standard stuff. i'm not a car person so i didn't know what to even add to my car when i bought it. i just really needed one to get to work and at that time the xb was what i can afford. so now that i've got some extra cash put aside, i want to spoil my xb. so if anyone can make any suggestions as to what i should get first or what i really need to have for my car, please let me know. i see all the other xb's driving around and i feel so bad that i didn't make mine as nice as theirs. my brother actually bought an xb about a month ago and his is more fixed up than mine and that was an impulse buy for him....grrr!!!

Hey Kat.
I won't laugh at you for doing the responsible, economical thing. It IS kind of odd to buy a cheap, economical car and then put 1/4 of the cost of the car into it to chip away at your MPG, ride quality, etc,. to have a car that looks better (?) and is faster (?). Both of those are subjective, hence the ?'s. There probably isn't a big difference in the number of people who look at your car and think it's cool, and the number who look at your brothers and think the same.
Do whatever you want to do for your own reasons.

As far as suggestions for what to do with your car, do whatever you want! Hell, if I was writing your checks, I'd buy stuff for MY car, not yours!
What do you want out of your car? A lower stance, better stereo, nicer wheels, more power?

We're just more sick than you, since neither of us have our xBs yet, and we're already into part swaps. I bought new headlight bulbs last night, and I don't know if I'll get the car on Saturday because of a problem with the other dealer.

Where are you at, anyway?

Feel free to PM me!

hey james....i live in la mirada.....not quite sure if that's LA county or OC coz i'm right on the border. well, the reason i checked these forums is coz my best friend (who's ALSO named james..haha) told me this is the best way to find the right places to get whatever i want for my car. the moment i announced that i wanna fix up my xb, EVERYONE i know has different ideas on what i should get and how my car should be by the time i'm done. they haven't even asked me what i wanted to get. i wanna start with rims....but since i'm not a car person, i have no idea what to go with for my xb. since this is MY car, i wanna make sure i pick the right ones coz some people i know have their hearts set on certain rims and when it's all set on their car, it just doesn't look right....u know?

so once i get all my research done and i get my new rims and wheels, then MAYBE i'll move on to the next thing whether it's new pedals, a spoiler, exhaust tip, cold air intake and some other ones that people i know (who shall remain nameless) wants for my car. i'd remember it better but my brain's starting to fall asleep.

What can I say? James is a good name. Never been to your area, as far as I know..
You have a good point on the rims. One major turnoff on cars to me is too big of a rim, and its no fun for me to see a nice car with a body kit (or not) with a newly found 10 inches of ground clearance so whatshisface can fit 22s on a $2500 car.

Rims and tires can get pretty expensive, so make sure you buy what you like. Keep in mind that something might look great on AND off the car, but when you bolt them on, your car rides like ____ and you look like an idiot bouncing up and down when you drive. I'm sure you know this already..

The biggest I'll go is 17 inch rims, most likely, and that's with a 40 or 45 series tire, probably a 45 if it gives no problems. For a while though, I'll be rollin' 15 inch stockers. Lowering springs are my first major mod, after tint an security. To me, it's the most dramatic mod that doesn't include bodywork, and when I DO get rims, the lower stance will only add to the rims and the whole general package.

Update:
My dealer FINALLY found a PW xB for me tonight. It just got off the ship today and should be in my dealers hands tomorrow night. I'll have it in the driveway early next week with my additions. I'm stoked.

Unlucky! To be honest, my "rep" stole the sale from my original salesperson, so he sucked some of the commission from my sale, and then gave me ZERO call backs to any questions over the course of a week. Whenever I wanted answers, I called him and played phone tag with his voicemail. Last night I called his manager and told him what a crappy job he was doing for me, and his manager said if my rep didn't call me today, he would and he'd take over.

So, he's been Johnny on the Spot since, and I believe is working overtime tomorrow to get my car in on time.

Try lighting a fire under the ___ of your rep, that's the only way I got any service from my current guy, Bob. My first rep, Doug Ballou at Freeman Toyota was excellent and I recommend him highly to anyone in the Santa Rosa area. I feel bad I lost some of his commission, but oh well. He's on vacation this week and he's still getting some cash when he gets back from my sale, so he should be okay.

I really recommend talking to the new car manager or used car manager at your dealer, either of which should be able to help you. Professionalism on the phone is a huge deal, and don't come off like you're ____ed, just sound dissatisfied, but wanting to do local business, but you're not going to be put aside and you're ready to spend money. Let them know they won't get your business if your rep isn't taking you seriously.

That should take care of your problem quick, it did to me!

congrats on ur car, james!! when i bought mine, i wanted to make sure i get a blue one so the dealer had to find it for me. took him a while, but he finally did and i had to wait 10 days for the boat to bring it here. and since i'm asian, everyone kept joking that my car's a fob like me. it was funny the first few times, but after about a week......i wanted to kill them all.
