There wouldn't be any discussion if it were a couple of inches shorter and the profile was less boxy. It's a wagon with tall square profile which resembles a van.

I think there are actual NHTSA regs that define van v. car v. truck so maybe somebody can look it up.

I just call it the anti-car, but I'd say its qualities are most similar to that of a wagon's. I see no sliding doors (van), high ground clearance (SUV), or ANY light truck qualities. And it's body style isn't so much a 5-door hatchback, either. Cargo room + shape + car frame = Wagon. Hell, even Edmunds.com calls it a wagon!

What if it has split rear doors instead of a hatch, like an old Trooper, what would you all think? Or if the back seats were removeable without tools. It would seem more vanny to me if it were like that.

Maybe the overall size has something to do with it to, you really can't carry van-sized cargo without deleting the rear passengers. I could fit a pushmower in the trunk of the Echo without putting the seats down.

The first mistake was taking thru a car wash

Just kidding

as it was said before, its a wagon

At car shows I've been classified as a compact import SUV, a compact panel van, and
at Tunerfest last month I took a Trophy for "Top Ten Truck or SUV"

kida off topic, but at my school they did not believe me that scion is a company, so i had to say toyota (lol uninformed). is it ok to call it a toyota scion xb? and micro van sounds cool, but doesnt it sit on a car chassy or somethin like that? it knida has the aspects of alot of cars, trucks, suvs and crossovers, but really its only classable as a wagon!

Scion is not a company, it is a brand. The company is Toyota.

My neice, after hearing my rambling about is it a truck or a car or wagon, says it's an RV.

The chassis we ride on is based off the Echo sedan.

Most people are moronic when it comes to this brand. Here's a typical conversation about my car (The other driver is in bold:

"What kinda car is that?"

"Oh, it's a Scion"
"A what?"
"A Sigh-on."
"Yeah, but who makes it?"
"Scion is it's own brand, but it's made by Toyota."
"...Oh. How good is this thing on gas?"
"oh, about 32MPG."
*look of utter contempt from other driver

Lately I've been thinking of getting a Frigidaire logo or suchlike to put on it. It's an appliance!

Or, for those of you into ancient and mangled SNL: It's a dessert wax! It's a floor topping!

The government, after 2 years of not knowing what to call it, decided the xB is a 'small wagon'. My insurance co. agrees. My friends call it my truck, and my wife's friends call it her minivan. I just call it perfect.
There is a sticker with the Scion logo emblazoned on a toaster...
As to whether Scion is a company or a brand, it would seem that if Chrysler is a company, Lincoln is a company, etc, then Scion is a company. Chrysler is owned by Daimler, Lincoln is owned by Ford, Scion is owned by Toyota...
However the State Trooper wrote it up as an '05 Toyota wagon.

Mine is regestered in WI as a truck, insured as a wagon, and driven like a rally car.

If you look at your Vin plate or your registration paper you will see that we own Toyotas. Beyond that--there is a lot of debate on what we are. I believe my registration says UT for utility....what ever that means.
