If you do decide to paint all the way around take some pix with everything removed.
I just want to see what it will look like,I may do it to mine for winter driving.

You could just order a can of the right color Scion yellow spray paint...

http://www.paintscratch.com

You can also buy paint in pens if the can is more than you need. They also sell OEM clearcoat. Paint formulations are based on your vehicle's paint color number (576) and your VIN#.

did you get the lip off then Scifly?

If not PM me and I can help ya out.

What I would do, is try to use the Krylon or what ever you use and see how that comes out. If not, oh well, take it to a shop and get it done right.

My lip got scraped too. Well, I swear I didn't and so does my wife but that's another story.

I took a different route to fix it, I don't think Krylon makes this color tho:

Ooooooh likes!! Would not last on my car so long but.. maybe, being solid fiber, scrapes can be smoothed and clear coated very easily. Gung ho!

---

JAMO, thanks for that link. I'll look into that. A closer match.
I noted how thin the paint is. Working with 400 grit and water, once the clear is gone (it's thin too) the color coat is about 1 mil I'd say.
Under that is the requisite white (white is best at covering the black plastic as realized by RedneckwithanxB noted on previous page. The old rule of helping get true color with low-hiding paints is to prime for light topcoats with a light primer. Dark prime for dark colors. This is not always done, with bad results for a black car when it gets a scratch... it sure shows worse. Tinting primers to nearly match the topcoat can be a quality touch for this reason. Plus it saves paint.

SCOTT thanks for the aid. I did get it off no problem really.
Learning by scrapes is best, eh?

It painted up in several coats and was dry to the touch in fifteen minutes. This Krylon is like the old, regular Krylon in respect to fast drying. But it's not a brittle paint and it does stick very well to plastics that flex.
before painting..

I might remount it tomorrow. Would first like to let it bake in the sun tomorrow. Looks pretty fair but not like clearcoat or acrylic enamel (that's a gloss!)
Got a fair smoothness and medium gloss that can always be color sanded and rubbed if it matters so much to make it better (not sure it would)

finishing pictures later tomorrow or on Monday.

good advice in general, I had nothing but my arm up under there so I wasn't risking my life.
I like screw jacks while they last.

time to wrestle the lip back on and take pic when finned.

having difficulty getting a photo nearly representative of the color contrast
I think i am pleased with the contrast being sufficient. The car in today's bright sun is greenish yellow but not this much green.
The painted lip is a true goldenrod yellow. I'll have to look at this for some time and get advice from people seeing it in real life before deciding for sure to carry the theme all around the car.
The Krylon Fusion stuff actually laid out about as well as the OEM paint (sans clear of course)

am pleased so far

lip and wheel covers are same paint.
New rear bumper facia maybe made black but the lower rear lip will be yellow.

crits and pans OK!

Good to know.
Reasonable price considering how valuable it is to spray a lip without incurring shop charges.

This only a screenshot. Use the link instead.

except regular jacks bend the frail scion "frame" and do no fit if you are lowered. and low profile for me are still not low enough and they're INSANELY expensive.

Yah, last night at the Advance Auto store I looked for a jack.
The only scissors jack was too tall and rated for 3k lbs.. will not fit under my lowered car.
And as you say, most of these jacks would flatten the frame flange.

A solution is to make a block of wood with generous slot for the flange cut deep enough.
And marry this with a gob of RTV to the top of an otherwise ill-fitting jack.

Then again, with lowered cars there are fewer jacks suitable to slide under the wee beastie.

I have a $20 hydraulic cheapie that still might fit under.
If it does I will have to do the wood block adapter because I've worn out the punk thrust bearing of the OEM jack.
Wish it had a torrington type bearing there instead of a skid plate.

thanks Darren.... how's the armrest btw?

That pic of the Fusion-painted front lip up above is so poor.
Sorry I can't get a better indicator up, to show that this combo actually is working well!
Have been looking at the car for some hours in varying light. The mix of two colors is good: just different enough to be "definate" and so...

Lets'do the rear lower lip, too. ALSO, this is the time for me to replace the rear bumper main fascia (it got punctured some time ago by a guy's exhaust pipe tip)

-I will initially fit the new bumper in the black, not painted, to see how black would look.
I think my xB might benefit from some relief of all that yellow. IMO the rear end of the XB is it's only weak point in the styling department (my taste is all)

SO, please anyone, are there any tips I should know before commencing to pull off the rear bumper covers?

I'll do this early next week, things permitting. Gracias for your helps here.

I bought one from advanced auto for $15 that fit under mine with goldlines.

Anyway, I say paint the whole car with the rattle can. I like the color better than the stock yellow!

So last night I ran up a driveway slope and sccccrraped the lip a bit.

No worries! Single stage paint, just touch it up and, hell, I'm gonna drop the car lower now that I have a system.

For those whose cars are Polar White, one easy fix for lip scrapes can be found at Home Depot. White electrical tape is a perfect match for the color and has lasted for 2 years on my front lip. If I manage to ding the lip again I just peel the tape off and put new tape on!
