Default Show or Go?

xB owners: Show or Go?

I do not have my xB yet but it is a question that I have been mulling over for quite some time.

I've been leaning toward a blend of performance and Show, with a lot of multimedia. This car would need a lot of money dumped into it obviously to even think of becoming even a moderate performance vehicle.

I'd like to hear your opinions and rationale for your preferences.

Thanks!

I'm always disappointed by a sweet looking car that can't get out of its own way. As far as I'm concerned, you need to be able to back up your "bling" with some performance, or you're no better than the guy with the supercharger in his '93 Ford Escort.

I tend to agree with that, especially since there is a strong 'ricer' stigma associated with making your car look blinged out with nothing under the hood.

It will take me longer to complete, but I'll go for both show AND go!

Its all show with the Box...put a couple of mods for go but its a waste to try and go all the way. If you think so I think you got the wrong car...

Yeah, you would be kidding yourself to think that you could get your xb to go toe-to-toe with a pimped out Eclipse. Having said that, I do not see a problem with making the "box" more than just a rolling example of your automotive styling taste either.

Just thinking about this guy up the street who has a busted ___ escort with the biggest wing I have EVER seen, and as far as I can tell, nothing else besides "mild rust discoloration".

I agree, show AND go is where you want to be!

I see no reason to try to make a 105 hp brick fast. It's fwd, and has an apparently feeble engine as far as going "fast" is concered, it doesn't have equal length half-shafts (does it?) and it doesn't have an LSD. It just seems like a lost cause to me. Besides, going fast is what my 240sx "project" is for.

So that being said, my box will be for cruising. Nice stereo, nice wheels, body kit, ect...more of an emphasis on the looks department.

Holy cow! A 1986 escort. You shouldn't be driving that thing, it should either be in the Smithsonian or a Ford museum!!

Haha, thanks for the insightful posts! :D

Here is my current plan for some Go:

1.) DC Sports Axle-Back exhaust
2.) DC Sports Headers
3.) TRD Shocks and Struts
4.) TRD springs
5.) Injen IS Short Ram intake
6.) Full turbocharger kit w/ front intercooler (undecided)
7.) Nitrous Express N-tercooler N2O kit (undecided)

Those are the current power mods that I would like to perform.

The full turbo kit and nitrous kit are excessive I know, but I like imagining the possibilities.

As for the Show part, I have some somewhat outlandish ideas to spruce up the interior. A nice sound system for sure, and sunroof. I don't need huge amounts of bump, but a nice punch would be nice. Considering two 10" JL Audio 10w3's right now. A few LCD screens, and definitely XM radio. Custom white interior with white leather with a few accent colors. A custom bodykit as well.

PS- I can't decide between chrome wheels or tuner style wheels.

Normally I would shy away from chrome wheels but with white leather... where are you going to put the chandelier? :D

I'm usually all about the go, like with my old turbo'd 240 (boosting 12psi) or '67 camaro (ran 12s), but the box is a slow-___ car. It's a cruiser.

I'm gonna do wheels, something for a good drop, and maybe a few goodies here and there, but next year I'll be saving for a project car. Right now I'm thinking '68-'69 vette.

I guess I'm like several other poeple here.... My 'go' car is a heavily modded Miata (turbo'ed at one point).

The Scion is my comfortable daily commuter.... The box is all about style and being different. Trying to make the xB into a street racer is like trying to turn a Harley into a track machine- that's not what it's all about.

Do whatever you want in the show department cuz the only thing that will kill the GO aspect of your mods would be a full trunk setup.

Don't go full trunk if you wanna keep it quick

Straight up serves my purposes quite nicely, which is to flip a big fat middle finger at the SUV and luxury car folks who surround me. Oh, I could afford a Hummer or Mercedes, I just don't want one. The xB makes the same statement the original Beetle did back in the days of chrome land barges -- bite me!

do both, get like an intake, exhaust headers then go all out on the show...that way you can pop her open and it's all good, not just on the outside...
