We had a piece of 4" foam custom cut for us at the local foam shop to fit into the back of our Explorer when we went camping. It worked great!! It's easy to cut to form around wheel wells and such. And it only cost about $20.

I found the seats in the down position had a lot of ups and downs. Check out my thread on converting the xb to a one person camper.

I slept once when it was 2am and I was so tired I couldn't drive straight. Without the gear the seats are pretty uncomfortable... I haven't tried the back yet though... I only pulled over for a quick snooze so I wouldn't kill anyone or myself.

I saw the camper conversions... pretty neat idea... might try it when I go camping...

i've "slept" in the back of the xb in more ways than 1. lol. never put the front seats down. and with the seats all flat like the pic you NEED a matt to be comfy and i do not lug a matt around. that and my rear strut bar complicates things. as well as my soon to be had front harness bar. still ave a trunk tho!

A better idea would be to go to a fabric or craft store and buy a sheet of upholstery foam and cut it to fit. That would be WAY more comfortable than an air mattress.

I'm thinking living in my XB for a complete week this summer when traveling, I'll for sure find something to be comfortable inside this big box, can't imagine having this room and not to get benefit...

Haven't tried it yet, but I slept in the front seat of a '97 Ford Ranger while traveling the country for several months. So, my XB should be a 'lay' in the park.

I wish I could do that but I cannot remove the headrests cause I got the LCD screens. I've always wanted to try it but never got to. Tried it in my brother's tC though... pretty awesome.
