Default Small knocking sound in rear

I just got an 06 xB about three weeks ago. Lately i hear this small but very annoying sound coming from the right(passenger) side. It sounds like something is hitting agianst plastic, but i can't find anything loose. I had my son sit in the back while i drove around but he could not seem to pinpoint the source. Before i take the rear half of the car apart, has anyone had this problem?? I don't beleive it is the muffler as if sounds like it is inside the car.

I found that the plastic panels for the passenger door and the pillar were hitting. My dealership stuffed some stuff in there and no more noise.

Try letting your son drive while you listen.

Have you installed a hitch? I had a similar sound when my exhaust tip rattled against the hitch.

Maybe there's a Japanese autoworker trapped back there!

i kinda had this problem, and i found out what was it. this might be unrelated to your problem but i found that it was the seat beat that is bouncing around because i always open all the windows down, so the wind always blew at the seat belt. weird thing is that it only affect the right side and not the left. now i just use that clip to clip the seat belt and secure it tightly...

I have a 2006 TCM Automatic and I have the same knocking rear passenger side. It does it with the seat up not when the seat is down. I think it's where the seat connects when its up(the hook/latch thingy). I took a paper towel and put it around the hook and held it there while I put the seat up and the rattle went away. I think that may be the source of my rattle. What nailed it for me was that it went away when the seat was in the down position. So it has to be the latch that holds the seat in place when it's up.

I thought it was the seatbelt too but I hooked it like someone was riding back there and I still had the rattle.

there is a plastic "fender liner" in the rear, behind the rear tires. They are held in with push rivets. Mine had the top rivet fall out and it rattled. Nearly drove me nuts trying to find it... so check it out.

Actually I got this problem too on my 04 xB. Now heres the kicker, the rear is completely gutted out, no seats, no belts, no nothing except for the frame and wires, and I still get that damn noise, and its from the same area as u guys. I get it when I accelerate, brake, or turn.

did you take out the side panels? i am thinking it is the clevis pin on the seat belts. It sounds like it is coming from behind the right rear panel. Where the cargo net attaches?

Every Interior piece and panel is out of the car. Clevis pin? Which is that?

clevis pin is the thing that locks the seat belt when it is quickly extracted. It has kind of a floating weighted lever, the pin, that sometimes clanks around. But it would be kinda hard to beleive something like that would make so much noise.

On mine the noise was caused by the tail light wiring. If you pop the access panel on the passenger side you can see there is alot more going through over there. When I hit bumps or turned the wiring harness on the TYC taillights would hit either the plastic or the other wires making noise.

The rear seat latch is also a noise maker. Wrapping some felt around the bar where the latch hits will stop the noise there until the felt wears out again.
