Turn off traction control (TRAC button) when trying to pull out of the snow. It's been awhile but I think that's what the manual said. Purchase better all season tires instead of OEM if you dont want snow tires.

Snow tires do wonders. I pass 4WD's all day long with easy. I also up sized my tires to gain a bit of ground clearance.

I've heard people recommend using silicone spray in the wheel wells to help prevent slush from sticking.

+1 --- turn of the traction controll in snow, sand, mud... any time you are not getting traction and trying to pull out of somewhere, this helps...
toyota should have left it off by default, and at least that way you could turn it ON when you needed to controll your traction in loose snow, sand, mud, gravel... it doens't make sence having to turn traction controll OFF when you need to get more traction!

Default good to know...

hello, all. nice to know i wasn't the only one thinking and going through this. the box was happy inside the garage but once out in the alley. she was a no-go. had to shovel her out, pull her back in. ended up working from home, today. will have to try the traction off trick. thanks, all.

btw - neodemon278, don't feel too bad. chicago's got that same vibe with the weather.

take care!

We have gotten any where between a foot and a half to 3 foot snow drifts here in eastern WA. Mine has been pretty bad in the snow, but I am running the stock tires. I need snow tires in a bad way. The prob is that they are kinda spendy because of the 15" rim. each snow tire cost as much as each of my 20" 30series tires.

Snow tires and trac off will work great. A bag of kitty liter in the back for just in case your tires spin and cant move is always a good idea.

The snow/ice broke my lower lip and skid plate from just pulling backward out of my driveway. crap

I live in Montana where the roads are regularly covered in snow and ice and have been loving the xB, even on long ski trips to Idaho, Utah, etc.

The biggest suggestion I could give you is to install a set of 4 Bridgestone Blizzaks. You can get them at tirerack.com. I got them delivered (2 day Fedex) for approx. $450 mounted, balanced and aired-up. [I did a little looking and you can get a 14" wheel and tire package for approx. $350 plus delivery, although it looks like supplies are low.]

I've had no problem getting around in snow, ice, slush and all the rest with these tires installed. As was mentioned above...I've passed 4-wheel drives of all sizes and shapes with no trouble at all. There is a great tech section on tirerack.com if you have any winter tire questions.

The traction control suggestion works as well, especially if the snow is deeper or slushier and you need a little wheel spin to get things moving.

Hope this helps.

I've never had problems with deep snow. The stock Goodyears and stock springs were all it needed to get me through 8+ inches with no problems. The dashboard was making all kinds of flashing lights and sounds but that was all. I also love the stability thing when it started getting sideways when I didn't want it to.

We got 9" last night... my car was plowing today, but handled beautifully. Turn off Trac control... it works nicely.

are you sportin' the stock wheels? my box came with 18" wheels and a bit of a lowered suspension. i'm sure this doesn't help my case much. having a hard time locating a set of stock wheels, locally.

I live in Alaska, slap a set of studded tires on it and away you go!! one of my xBs has studded tires, the other is regular all weather tires.

18"ers and snow do not mix. Did you buy it new with 18"ers. If so you should have gotten your steelies back for use during the winter. Also check with some Scion dealers. They may have some take offs that someone didn't want and you can pick them up really cheap.
