So I testdrove the xB today ...
Just as you guys said, it did handle well, despite the tall look. I was overwhelmed by the interior space and the design of the front dash, it was all too original n too cool. It was much much slower than I anticipated (I drove a 5 spd) but that's just how my civic was at first before I changed some parts around too. All in all, it's an incredibly practical car and it's got a great interior to add on to. The visibility is amazing and them backseats... well, lets jus say it'll make my girl happy.
Now all that's left is finding out who offers the cheapest insurance around here (I think I heard some local member mention it was All-State) and a few other banking issues, and then I'll be officially a Scion owner.

Congrats on the test drive. This idea of it being to slow, puzzles me. Most members seem to say this. How fast does one really need to be? The xB can do all the legal speed limits, thats enough for me.

Another thing you should look at is which dealership sells it cheaper. Sure its pure pricing but dealers add a bunch of bull sh*t doc fees and dealership fess to raise the price. In my area one dealership sells it for 15,218 another 15,940 for a base automatic.
Pretty cool huh? I was looking at Cruisers, small suv types, etc. and was concerned that the 1500cc 4-popper was going to be a bit anemiec. But I test drove an automatic with the overdrive off, 3 people in the car and air conditioning on going on a long uphill stretch out of town on the interstate and it kept up with everybody but some guy in a Z4 who was passing everything.
Congrats on the test drive and I hope that if you do buy, you will be as happy as a lot of us are with our xBs.
As far as what chucksu said...I don't think mine is "slow" and I don't intend on driving "fast". I only do the posted speed limit, but (always a but) I have lived and driven in several parts of the U.S. and find that (especially when merging) there is a little bit of lack of power and can be quite dangerous if you aren't aware of the way others drive (Boston for example LOL). From 0-20 MPH, t is great! But after that, lets say cruising on the freeway and finding that you need to pass someone or even just get out of the way of someone or something, it lacks a little. It's not always about "speed" or driving fast.
Once again, I hope you buy and also hope you are happy with the xB. This is the easiest car I have ever worked on as far as adding or modding equipment. I am VERY happy with ours and it just takes a little extra care when driving and "knowing your cars limits" when merging and driving. Good luck!

thanks guys
i'm glad you understand me. it's not just about wanting to speed and go fast. my 1.5L 91 civic dx hatch with simply 10.2mm spark plug wires, 2.25" exhaust, cold air intake, clutch n ngk spark plug was much much quicker (only slightly quicker when it was stock). every car can do the speed limit, that's the obvious, but of course ppl would normally prefer something a little quicker.
aside from the speed, it handled well. i found the auto xA to be much quicker considering the significant weight difference, which i didn't know about till the salesman told me.
i'll be more than satisfied if i can get it to run at least a flat 17 sec 1/4 without spending too much, even that's quick enough for me.
