Default Spider Cracking Windshields

I have an '06 XB, while driving down the road, my windshield was hit by a rock no big deal. I inspected the impact area, which you couldnt even fit the tip of a ball point pen in. However, after work it had spidered out on a hot day in Cali (18-22" worth). My co-worker had the same thing happen to his '04. I lived in Alaska for 4 years and have had much bigger rocks hit my windows with nowhere near the damage I have on my xb. Anyone else experiencing this?

Oh yea.. You are not alone at all my friend.. Search this site. .. there's so many broken windshields in this site. Welcome to the club.. If you ahve to replace it.. get Fuyao, it's thicker and more durable against rocks.. good luck!

Default Cracking windshields

Alright troops. Honda had a problem with Element windshields and after I traded mine in for an XB I got a letter in the mail basically giving owners refunds or offering replacements. Toyota needs to pay up or ownup to an inferior windshield problem. So either by potitioning or something with mass force of owners, we should be able to get this changed. I love my xb and have no problems with Toyota, but when something is wrong, it's wrong. Don't know if anyone is with me on this, but I'm game. Dealerships don't care and generally give you the runaround

There was a class action law suit petition started but it never got anywhere. You better have deep pockets to go against a leader in the car industry such as Toyota. AND ... the box has been out this long, so Toyota will say that it should come as no surprise that the front windshield is compromised and they didnt force you to buy a first gen box.

BTW .. between mine, my GFs and a friends ( all RS1s ) after this spring combined we will be up to 14 windshields.

I can tell you that one of those replaced was a SafeLite that cracked vertically one day after the install. After that they installed a PPG ... and that has held up well for both me and my GFs. The other RS1 ( dghotlava ) went to a PPG after replacing his 2nd or 3rd. And consider this, all three are 04s, so all three of us have had our xBs just over 4 years now. And were up here in the Northeast where they like to toss in some gravel with the road salt.

I had a small chip that didn't spider out. I had a seperate crack that started at the base of the windshield and spread straight up then curved to the left. It happend when we got out our first big freeze in No. VA. It was after my warranty expired so I am stuck. How much did it cost to get the PPG windshield?

On average the PPG runs about 300 clams here in NYC area.

My current windshield is cracked in 3 different places all of them less than 2 inches long so it passed inspection. It's held up like this since last July, but god it sucks knowing that even after this one gets replaced I'll most likely go through at least one more during the life span of the vehicle.
