Default split rear hatch?

Has any one thought of spliting the rear hatch in two so that the top glass lifts upward and the bottom folds down like a tail gate?

yes!

At the very minimum, I've thought it would be nice to have the glass lift. Do you have any ideas as to where to start?

It was just a thought ,but i thinkit wouldn't be to impossible to try. My thought was to cut a stock door right below the glass and then reinforce the insides.

So you think it wouldn't take much to make it happen? I think you just need the bottom hinges and some kind of latch assembly to got things going.

Let's see.
Remove hatch.
Cut hatch in half and reinforce it while keeping its shape.
Build door overlap flange between upper and lower half.
Build new hinges into the bottom of the hatch and body.
Build new limit straps for the lower half.
Build latches for the sides of the lower hatch.
Build operating lever for lower hatch.
Build a latch for the new bottom of the top hatch.
Build new seal and seal holder for joint between upper and lower halves.
Get everything aligned.
Disassemble and paint.
Reassemble and realign.

Simple, no?

Hey some people see the glass half fulland then theres the other people. I think it's half done ,you got the door. Just adapt some already existing equipment to make it work.

Not saying you can't do it. It just won't be done in a half-hour like on Monster Garage. Making it work will take some time. Making it work well and seal properly will take even more time.

hell i designed everything, did a photo shop, re designed, and still, im friggin clueless...i would love to do it, and even a way to get the door to open you could use the factory release, just move it to the top of the bottom panel...this way the top glass releases and goes up, the bottom swings down

but why do it on a vehicle that is this low, i could understand on a factory suspension box, but i have teins, big difference

INteresting mod,

Japan has the opendeck Bb model. Wonder if it's possible to get the neccesary parts from japan, since it's OEM to make this modification possible

The rear bumper might need some modification too.

On the OD, the entire chassis/body back of the "B" pillar is different. Just strengthening the lower chassis to handle the lower portion hinges is more than "simple."

(Monster Garage stuff doesn't have to last for 100,000 miles in real use...A lot of their stuff also just looks good from one angle, and that only until it breaks from normal use.)

That would be nice to have, at the least just to get stuff out of the back without having to open up the whole door.
