Default The term "Ricer" --Rant--

Is it just me that takes offence to the term "ricer"? I think it has negative connotation. Its like saying your ride looks redneckish or something of the sort. And its like...WTF...you bought a Japanese car. Why do you use a derogatory term that describes a style (Japanese racer style) invented by the people that made your car?

The funny thing is that some moron used the term "ricer" but the topic was about spinners. I saw another genious using the term but the xB was painted like the old lowrider style. huh? My point is that I think that the term and ignorance comes hand in hand

Rant done. Over and out.

First and foremost, get your facts straight. Rice has become so widely used that there are many forms of "Rice". Secondly, "Rice" does not describe any Japanese race style at all. What you commonly refer to as rice, is stupid american kids that watch fast and furious and decide that they want to make their car just like that without understanding what it takes to have true Japanese style, whether it be VIP, JDM etc. Rice, to many, is classified as huge mufflers, not exhaust, huge alluminum spoilers that have no use on the car, badly installed body kits, i.e. lines not matching, unpainted, etc.
In my humble opinion, it is not my place to say what is "rice" and what is not, or what is ugly and what is "hot". Whatever i like may not reflect what i like, but that gives me no right to bash what you are passionate about. I think if everyone got off this whole "rice" concept and accepted other people's views that there would be more people creating great things for cars.

So what fact have you schooled me on?

You should get YOUR facts straight. When my older brother introduced me to street racing in the late 80's the term rice rockets where used by dudes with American muscle cars clowning on the "little fixed up Jap cars". Hence the negative connotation I was talking about.

I feel you on how the term has evolved ie. Fast and the Furious. It still doesnt make it right.

Peace

i dunno i think too many people in this world get all ____y over things that are so trivial like HOW something is said and exactly WHICH word was used

anyone can take offense to anything, the whole world thinks every single person at every single moment must be absolute 100% politically correct.

now im not flamin ya, or saying your dumb for posting that..but trying to solve the word "rice" used in reference to cars....

not to mention the first time it was used could have meant something different than what it means NOW, i didnt invent the phrase, to me it just means some goober wannabe trying to pretend he's got some super fast car cause he has a spoiler and a few stickers..thats it..nothing more nothing less

accept my apology if this sounds a tad harsh than I meant it, its late and i cant sleep cause my 2 teeth being pulled is hurting like hell

Rice is an additude and style. It can't be explained but you know it when you see it. ie. The 16 yr old civic driver with a huge wing, wheels on the back steelies on the front, huge wing, and goes around saying he has a 10 second car. But in a way rice is how sex should be, Slow, obnoxious and loud enough to wake the neighbors. :D

R-racially
I-inspired
C-cosmetic
E-enhancements

Now, this isn't a racial slam, it is just a term about the people of other races trying to imitate what I think are some great looking cars. The Japanese Touring Car racing series.
The folks don't get it, that explains the huge wing on a front wheel drive car. Then, after the poor imitation, they add parts of their own culture. That makes a bad idea worse.
It isn't a slap in the face of the original culture, it is a (well deserved) slap in the face of the ones that don't know what they are doing or why they are doing it.

Race
Inspired
Cosmetic
Enhancement

That is the PC version of it and not the origin. I've been doing american muscle car shows for decades. Rewriting history is not a good idea...doomed to repeat it!

That term is from the 60's folks. The Harley crowd started it when the Asian imports started. Notice I said Asian? Because this was not applied to European bikes.

In the 70's, it included Asian cars from the American Muscle Car clubs.

If anyone thinks different....go to an American Muscle Car show and just call ONE car sporting a big fin RICE and try to explain the Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement clause. Might be pretty hard as they pound on you.

Ever heard how Chevy's get to be so fast (from the 70's)? A steady diet of eating Mustang and rice.
