That is a HARD sale. It's almost like when the folks from the South try to defend the Rebel Flag...

Good luck with that.

Yeah. . . I know. But you DO know what I'm talking about? The swastika is an old buddhist symbol. In fact, some toys made in Asia still have the symbol. . . but unfortunately, most people see the symbol, and only recall that it was used by the third reicht (which it has nothing to do with). I'm ASIAN man, it's not like I'm some confederate hill billy!
But yeah, when those asian made toys make it overseas, they get sent back, real quick (even though it technically is rotating the opposite direction).

I'm not trying to sell anyone, so I don't need anybody's judgement on my factual historical data. I'm just making a comparison to previously stated comments.

This kind of thing follows many different topics, including things like the "N" word, swear words, real violence vs violence in video games. There's a stark difference between things that potentially have a bad connotation, and those who use those things (symbols or words) and use them for there bad, hurtful connotations. IE, playfully making obscene jestures at friends(they have real, negative connotations) vs actually meaning them. The hurtful aspect of these things are not an inherent aspect of the word or symbol, it's inherent to the meaning that people give them (with that intended purpose). I'm not debating either side, just stating facts.

Excuse me but , the young Japanese are NOTORIUS for ONE UPING others .

By the way , I am liking the look of MY OEM hubcaps , I have the 2004 5 or 6 spoke. Its also great that I have NOT seen my hubs on any other xB`s anywhere near where I live , Most have rims with L.P. wheels .
Plus, my city is putting in new pipes , so the streets are real rough&bumpy with some
P. holes, so I know I would have replaced something .

Yeah, I do. History is my thing. And here is what I mean by a 'hard sell': I happen to like the swastika. I think, by itself, it's a neat symbol. Good design. BUT, I can't 'endorse' it, since it has been stolen by the *****. It will take centuries, (if ever), before that symbol is ever again seen for what it was at first.
Take the Rebel Flag. It represents to many, states fighting for their rights to govern themselves. Which is was. The Civil War was not about the South wanting to keep slaves; it was about the South wanting to be able to be free, as in, at the time, the North was taking serious advantage of the South and it's economic weakness. This is not a thread for that discussion, I'll admit. But the point being, the Rebel Flag gets seen (by many) as a symbol of race intolerance, which it was not. Heck, many black folks fought for the South, of their own accord. Under that flag. And, final point on that flag, when that Cuban kid, what was his name, well, he was a kid that was in Miami about five years ago, that caused a fuss, since Cuba wanted him back...anyway, I'll never forget this sight: A pick up truck going down US1 with black people in it, waving the Rebel Flag at the protesters. Yup. It is indeed, a symbol of the South.

But will the Rebel Flag ever gain acceptance in the mainstream? I wonder. I somehow don't think so.

BOT, I also think that Spinners in the shape of the Iron Cross should get a pass. The Iron Cross is not seen by many to be anything but what it is: A cross.

I understand what you are saying, and agree to an extent. But I'm simply stating that it's the subjective meanings which are to blame, not the symbols themselves. Swastikas will never be socially acceptable, ever.

No, RIMS are better than hubcaps!

with my 18"s I can stick my hand through the spokes and clean the inner part of the rim.

Can you do that with hubcaps? NO!

Not to be pedantic or anythng but aren't the "wheel covers" not "hubcaps?"

And the flag everybody is thinking of is the Confederate Naval Jack, not the "rebel flag." There's no such thing.

Is it really that difficult to type a sentence with proper grammar and to spell the words correctly? Or maybe just a period every once in awhile would be nice.

It has to take longer and be harder to type the words incorrectly on purpose than it is to type them the right way.

nope. hub caps cover the hubs.
look at the pre-thirties car for the primordial form of a hub cap: it is a CAP,
like a screw-on bottle cap. It covers the stub end of the axle and keeps the grease inside the front bearings. The model T hub cap is the most common example seen today. That one is a grease cup, too: pack it full of grease, screw it on to force grease into the front wheel bearings. Those early, true hub caps were the focal point of the wheel and so, were decorated with a maker's logo most generally.

the tap-on wheel bearing dust covers of modern cars are identical in general function to the early car hub caps.

in this sense of bearing protection, all cars regardless of rims or steelies, have "hub caps"

summary:
-hub caps of long, long ago are called dust caps today-
-decorative hub caps of cars made after about 1930, when modern pressed steel wheels became standard, are purely decorative to hide the bolt pattern
-wheel covers, associated with the 'fifties up to today are full face covers.
so there is still need for both terms.

A hub cap as that term is used today is not a wheel cover but a wheel cover is in effect, also a 'hub cap'.

No alloy wheels for me. Last time I bought mondo-expensive tires I got less than a hundred miles before dropping a right rear wheel into a drop-off from pavement. The tire was destroyed and the wheel took a ruinous dent. F!

If the same thing happened to my stock steelie, the tire would die but the wheel would survive fine

IDEA:

I'm getting a set of the Scion xb caps of the round hole variety.

-paint them gloss black with flex paint (I may try that new Krylon plastic paint "for any plastic".. (go cheap)

-paint the black that will show through the -holes- YELLOW or ORANGE (dunno which)

I'll do a trial with water-washable poster paint to see how I like the color show-through. Then get "high temp engine enamel 500F"; a spray can from the auto parts store. Reason for this -kind of spray can paint?

-it is "acrylic enamel", the toughest of the non-catalyzed paints, and its gloss is much more salt-soap-dirt-petroleum resistant than rustoleum. most of all, the "engine enamel" sprays on and lays out smooth as glass and dries fast, almost as quickly as Krylon spray lacquers.

I dunno if the engine enamel spray can stuff comes in safety yellow, but orange is available and that is a hot color. there's already plenty of yellow on my RS2. So, what will be seen is a black tire. A glossy black Scion wheel cover sans logo cos its painted over. And through the wheelcover openings fire will be seen.
