Default Tips in "arguing" with the dealership for new buye

Hi, I am looking forward to get my own xa pretty soon. Do you guys have any trick to get your car in a better deal or price? Like what to say etc.... I only got one defense, paying the car with cash. Is that enough? Do you think an 18 year old who pay her own car with cash for her first time will "impress" them or will they get the idea that she is a spoiled brat who is loaded with $$$? I am working and saving all my money right now, so any tips that will cut a single dollar means a lot to me, since college is coming up....

I have the same question as well.

I mean, is there anyway to get the price down a little. The Pure pricing thing smells a little fishy to me ...

but if thats what everyone is paying then .... I guess ... hmm

Besides free oil change (which I dont need, cuz my friend owns Auto shop and I can get any oil all I can for like a buck each LOL) Any other free serivce that I can leech off from the dealer ?

There's not much profit margin to begin with. IMO, the Pure Pricing is good. I didn't have to fight and wrangle and waste hours to feel like I got a decent deal...

Unless that particular dealership is running some kind of promotion, you are not going to get a discount. You will never get a discount unless it is posted, because everyone at that dealership must pay the same price. The price is already lower than any competitor, so it is not like you are not getting your money's worth. I bought my xB at the same price as my customers, and we all got a good deal.
As far as paying cash, that really does not help with pricing. Many years ago, delaers had to arrange financing and it was a big hassle and risk for the dealer, so a cash deal was a better price. In present day sales, the dealership does not provide the financing, just a way to help you set it up with a lender. The lender then pays the dealer for the car and let's you pay them back. There is no incentive for the dealer to offer a lower price for cash vs. financing. In fact, there really is not much benefit of either one over the other.

don't they make a lil profit in the finance dept if you finance thru the dealership????
e.g. bank approves your loan for 2.9%, finance manager turns around tells you "you've been approved for 4.9%" thus the haggling never really stops with the price of the vehicle...

Yeah those finance guys are sneaky ******. No offense. I bought my wife a Pilot, the finance guy says he had to 'fight' to get me 5% (I have perfect credit so that rate was BS) so I had to haggle for 4%. Whatever. I get home and see a Honda ad on TV for "2.9% financing on all Hondas thru..." so I call them back and they were all "oh, we didn't know about it, thanks for pointing it out!". Sneaky bastards. Apparently, I underestimated their sneakiness. Cheers.

This is true for other brands, but Scion is different. Our finance rates must be posted, and we only use Toyota unless the customer is turned down or has their own financing. We get $250 for financing a car with Toyota. We get a small amount if we go to another bank, which varies by bank (we only use anothetr bank if they are declined by Toyota). We usually get no money if the customer has their own bank.

Best thing you can do to keep the price low is stay away from the ridiculously expensive options. Get what you need on the car, but nothing more. If you want to add things later, you can either do it yourself or take it to another shop.

Oh, and there is one way you can get a discount on a Scion: Active duty military get $500. :D

Good idea. I will can say truthfully that you can get a lot of the options later from other sources at a lower price. Just remember, if it is not an official Scion accessory and/ or is not installed by a dealership, you will not get the full warranty coverage.

And go join the Air Force. Just don't be a pilot. Try something safe like computer programming.

You cant really lower the actual price of the car, but you can get some of those overpriced accessories for free.

Say something like, "This car only looks right with foglights. I'm not paying $350 though! Throw in some foglights and you've got a deal."

They know you will pay roughly the same price for the car somewhere else, so to let you walk over $350 is stupid. You should be able to pull off something like that. But if you ask them to lower the sticker price $350, you're wasting your breath.

We cannot give anything away like what you are saying. i would let you walk over $50 if it meant keeping compliant with the Scion covenant. if a dealer is willing to break the rules for you, then they are not honest. If you want to do business with a dis-honest dealer, then go ahead and do so, but don't _____ when something goes wrong and you are not happy with your experience.

I have a friend that is in programming in the Air Force here in TX. He will never see any action, according to what he tells me.
as far as the $500 for active military, I think that varies by region, because I am not finding anything about it for TX.

All I am saying is, unless that is something that they are doing for everyone, they are breaking the rules. If you want to buy from a dealer that is dishonest, that is your call. I am nopt saying that I have never given free stuff, but I did that for everyone. Nobody gets any special treatment at my store. That is the way it should be, so why screw with a system designed to help everyone.

Yeah, we are all screwed on our Fords. It sounded like a good idea when I bought it though. That was before I was selling cars.
