Toasters on the Silver Screen (xBs in movies)
I have often heard the lamentation that our cars, once unique and unknown everywhere we went, are now showing up all over the place. The mall, the drive-in, the planetarium - these days it seems like you can't swing your arms without hitting another xB (and probably cracking the windshield). There IS one place however, that xB's are still as rare and unseen as ever - the movies.
I don't think there's a car in existence that hasn't at least had a walk-on (drive-on?) role in one movie or another. Many vehicles even play a major role: the Mini in The Italian Job, the Civic and all its pals in the Fast and the Furious series, the SMART car in The DaVinci Code (which is a pretty funny choice for a chase scene, since the SMART has all the accelaration of a riding lawn mower). Every car has its movie. Every car but ours!
I can't say I'm surprised - the xB would literally be a showstopper in most movies. A director wouldn't want his actors upstaged by the funky car in the background. Still, I have found ONE example, so there is hope. There's also a whole Japanese movie industry in which the BB might appear.
Therefore, I pose the question to the group: have you seen the Scion xB in any other movies? I watch a lot of movies, but I certainly don't watch ALL of them, and I could only find one appearance, unless you count the cartoon monstrosity in Cars.
Hopefully this won't be as short a thread as I think it's going to be. ;) Thanks!
Here's my contribution:
I am a longtime fan of the Final Destination series. For those who have been living abroad or under rocks, the FD movies begin with a horrible catastrophe that kills the entire cast, which turns out was only a premonition by the main character, who saves everyone from certain death. Those that were spared, however, soon find that...well, there's no good way to say this: death is stalking them. They frantically struggle to stay alive as freak accident after freak accident leads them to horrible, meaty deaths. It's fun! :D
Anyway, I'd been waiting for several years for the third installment of the series to come out, and it was with much anticipation that I saw it opening night. In this case, main character Wendy Christensen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has saved a group of her graduating classmates from a horrific roller coaster accident, only to have them die in (surprise) horrific freak accidents. Part of Wendy's conflict is figuring out who was ON the roller coaster in the first place, as she's not even sure who around her is also on Death's list. Three-fourths of the way through the movie, Wendy makes the terrible discovery that the next victim in line is actually her younger sister Julie (Amanda Crew). Wendy races to locate her sister, but gets to her 2nd floor window just in time to see Julie departing for a Centennial Fair, and presumably certain death. OH NOEZ! D:
Imagine my surprised when Wendy yanked back the curtain to reveal...this!

Amanda Crew prepares to enjoy the spacious backseat of a stock 2006 xB in the New Line Cinema movie Final Destination 3.
Based on the nature of the movie, I was totally expecting the xB (and its passengers) to meet a gruesome, fiery death by 18-wheeler, or sinkhole, or ocean liner, or whatever...and frankly, I was kind of disappointed when it didn't.
Oh well - seeing a Suburban flip 14 times in Final Destination 2 will have to do.
Anyway, help me out here!

In the new Mandy Moore/Diane Keaton/Laura Graham film Because I Said So. In the trailer, you can see that Moore's character uses the xB for her balloon business.

** EDIT **
I can't do a proper screen grab, but it is at the :31 point in the trailer. After the underwear shot, incidentally.

I know there was an xB in that new show that got cancelled called The Loop. bBist car was in an episode of Miami CSI.
I'm also wondering why the xB hasn't been the main car in a movie yet. Maybe the best is yet to come. It'd be great to have an xB become famous like Herbie the love bug and get it's own movie.

It was also on the CBS TV show "Numbers" during an episode last year where two teenagers were using the Internet to rip-off the Russian Mob.
BTW, one of the main characters, "Charlie", drives a Toyota Prius.

However, after watching One Hour Photo, I assume any male driving an Echo is like Robin Williams character. So maybe it's better the xB isn't prominently featured in any TV show or movie!
its in quite a few movies actually... you guys named just a few, but ive seen it all over tv in tv shows... movies... even internet ad which are not about the xb... i even saw a insurance commercial which featured a xb... whats even more suprising is that u will find them in movies pre US release.. meaning prior to 2002. infact i believe in 2 fast 2 furious during the import rush scene where they are all leaving the garage u can see an xb or 2.
ummmm here is a simple solution ... make your own movie with your Scion in it? If the Scion community is social as any other, and loyal, why not make our own? Just a thought.
It seemed to work wonders for those BMW mini movies that were on their webpage and tv commercials a few years ago. You remember the mini episodes that told you to go to their webpage to see the next episode after getting you hooked on the TV commercial.
