I would`nt advise towing with the xB at all. Since the manual prohibits it ,if something were to go wrong as a result of towing it would`nt be covered under factory warranty.

i went to the idrc show and there was an xb there that had one.he loves it.he trailers stuff all the way to mexico with it.i wish i took pics

There are a lot more variables that go into the towing capacity of a vehicle than the size and power of the engine.
You could tow 5000 pounds with a 20 horsepower engine if you want. It all depends on your gearing. You could have very short gear ratios and be able to pull that 5000 pounds, but you won't be able to tow it at highway speeds. When that much pressure is applied on gears turning that fast, the tranny will heat up and eventually develope problems.
Also, you need to consider how you will tow the trailer up a hill, BUT ALSO HOW YOU WILL STOP THE TRAILER. The Scion has adequate brakes for it's size, but it'll be terrible at stopping with 400+ pounds being towed behind it.

I am not going to say it is right or wrong to put a hitch on an xB. If the manual says no way. FINE. The manual says no way .
The speed limit signs say 55 (maybe slightly higher), is everyone here who is ranking on the trailer hitch abiding the speed limit? You know driving at high speeds is dangerous, since the suspension and aforementioned brakes are SOO inadequate :? .
And you guys want turbos and superchargers tooo......go the speed limit safely?
And you guys put 18" rims with v rated tires sooo.......you plan to exceed 130mph to a maximum of 149mph?
Come on, The guy wants a hitch. So do I. Whats the big deal. He is here asking for help. You can make a lot points to support YOUR OPINION, but if your opinion is meant to prove your point, how are you helping him. We all have the tuner blood in our veins which is why we bought boxes. We all want to make our boxes different and suit our needs. He has a need, try to help if you can. :D

put electric brakes on the trailer....upgrade the clutch if its manual....put a cooler on it if its an auto.....should be fine for hauling what u wanna do....
just take off easy.....with the electric brakes on the trailer no worries

I would add a hitch to mine, But only a hidden hitch type that hides behind the bumper. Give them a little while there will be a bolt on for it. I think I would add a water and oil temp gauge at the same time, but mainly cause the no temp gauges thing has bothered me since day one. I would tow lighter things (not the harley in it's enclosed trailer). But I would tow a Sport bike on one of those alum. single rail bike trailers. I would say 700-800 lbs. max loaded on the trailer correctly. If you took your time and didn't push it, I doubt this would cause a problem.
And i will say it agian if a VW can do it, so can an XB.
I also found where a stock harley can tow a 200 lbs trailer w/ 200 lbs of crap. 400 gtw I would assume a xb could do quite a bit more then that.

Last week one of the people attending the SCIENERGY I.E meeting had a hicth on his XB. He told the group he hauled a small trialer and his family from southern Cali to Cancun and back, with no problems. It can be done. He did say he had to go to 4 fab shops before someone was willing to do the work.

Yeah i have a 02' YZ426, (218lbs) and i would love to tow it to the tracks.... i was thinking a one rail trailer (under 200lbs?) so your looking at about 450lbs total including riding gear. Thats like 2.5 passangers and some lugage . So i dont see the prob....
