Default TRD Skeleton Fuel Lid Install

Ok, ive searched everywhere, but does anybody know how to INSTALL the Skeleton fuel lid for the xB? YOu would think its easy as taking screws and swapping it out..but they are not screws. I dont know if you just pop them out, or you have to use a special tool. I cant seem to find it anywhere. Thanks for the help guys!

Toyota says that the fuel door is held on with 2 rivets. Sometimes you can cut a slot into a rivet and unscrew it like a screw. Not positive if this is the case with that thing or not.

YOu'll need a rivot gun..we've installed a few on the Scion Evolution cars and a bit of work. you will need to drill out your stock rivots to take off the gas door and replace it back with the Toyota gas lid..then pop in the rivots. Good luck.

If anybody is interested in those lids let me know, I have a few. Thanks

Thanks for the responses. To "drill out" the existing rivets, what tool do we use to actually drill them out? Sorry for the stupid questions, im just tryin to figure it out. Do i use the rivet gun to remove them also? Or do i use a regular drill and drill my self a hole? And the existing rivets that came with the fuel door/gas cap, which end shoud it go in? Thanks for the help! I even might just take it to the dealership and let them figure it out. I dunno.

You would likely use a drill to drill out the rivet, your best bet might be to have someone do it for you, seems too easy to slip and tear up the car finish IMHO.

I have done this on my and others Celica's.

First you will need to drill out the rivets. I suggest three different bits going progressively wider. Its going to be a pain in the butt but eventually you will get wide enough to break it apart. Do this for both rivets then pry off the old door. Once you have done that you will need a rivet gun. They are ~$20 a Home Depot. Take the plastic off the rivet then put it in the rivet gun and line up the holes and the door.

CAUTION: Place a towel or pillow or something down around the gun, because once the rivet breaks off you are applying enough force for it to fly a little and you could scratch your paint.

If you need any help PM me. I have a rivet gun for those in the DC Metro area that need some help doing this.

If you mean have a friend do it then I agree but this definitely not something you want to take to a shop, they will charge you a bunch and you have no gurantee that the HS kids that work there are any better that you.

The rivets should come with the fuel lid door.

You think that the shop is going to be expensive? Toyota is going to charge $60-80 an hour and call it a 2-3 hour job.

I could do it in 1/2 hour for free.

I'm not sure, I think personally I'd replace the rivets with a few self tapping bolts
