V-8 xb
I was wondering if you guys can help me with this. My box is consuming gas just like a v8. I mostly do highway driving to and from work. I drive between 80 and 100mph on the highway(Gosh, love that I-75) but even when i do the speed limit on local street, I am still loosing, what could this be? I do notice that the the hole to put nozzle in, is open. Some cars and even the postal truck I drive everyday, has that metal flap to cover the hole, do you think the absence of that flap could hurt me?
This isnt unusual. A lot of people are having poor mileage on their xb's, even those without wheel upgrades. Im getting around 220 a tank with about 80% city driving, so im not surprised, personally. If you're getting around the 220 area driving mostly city, there shouldn't be a problem, and this goes for driving the speed limit on highways (i dont know how you cant with an xb).

I have 225x45x17 drive about 60mph 90% highway get 345 miles before yellow light turns on and when I fill it up gas tops off at 9.75 gallons .....headers magnaflow catback aem cold air intake....After getting stoped for 75mph about 2 months ago I try hard to keep it under 60mph 55 is speed limit where I drive. I have noticed a my gas mileage no surprise has increased alot since I keep it around the speed limit.
hey i have the same issue. its a bummer the warrenty is awful too. I drive about 100 miles round trip 6 days a week. Services out the window. Gas every three days. Recently I came across my first problem with my year and a half scion. And by the way I think you just convinced me I did not have the saftey cover. I was low on gas and went to fill it up. I got 4.5 or so gallions in and hang on....you know how we cant just set the full blast button on the gas pump RIGHT. well it kept clicking and clicking.. gave up got my change and went about my business. Later noticed my gauge is now full.
now the gauge is stuck on full and will only allow me to put 2 gallions of gas in at a time. Yes I will take it in but I do not want to pay the dealership 100.00 to agree with me there is something wrong and then charge me another who knows how much to fix. It will be fixed soon and I will let you know how silly it was

about the no flap thing. . . you have a plastic cap for the gas tank. . . the little metal flap is not necessary. . . just make sure you put the plastic cap on before you drive off! Otherwise it doesn't make a difference.
Secondly, you may be fooled that it is consuming gas because we have a small tank. The illusion of filling up more often and the needle dropping faster may make it seem like you are using more gas, when in fact you are using less.

You guys all know that EPA tests are done at 48mph on a dyno, right?
Exactly how bad is your mileage?
I've been getting pretty consistant 24-26 mpg on Iowa 10% ethanol. City/Highway about 75/25%. Mine's a manual.

i agree 80-100 mph will eat up your gas,i get 300 mile per tank,i keep it at 3000 rpm(70mph)on the hwy and in the city i drive the speed limit, avoid aggressive driving all the above should help you save gas, by the way i drive a auto on 18"wheels....
I"ve been having a average of around 35 mpg in my box and between 325 to 340 miles inbetween fill ups. I only have put about 5 tanks of gas in my box since I bought it and I only have 1700 miles on it so far.
some of the gas mileage could be from my driving style at different time. sometimes I shift right around 3 grand and others I let it go higher. I'd say the biggest thing to gass mileage is how you drive. IF you are always getting on it hard at each stop light you will definetly have some crappy mileage. I have a muscle car that sucks the gas if I am getting on it hard all of the time. Trust me that it sucks down the gas. I know one of the times when I was checking the mileage on it I was getting maybe 6 miles to the gallon but thats the price you pay for horsepower.

36-38 MPG, on average, (high once of 40), and at times, I have got as low as 30, but that is when I idle in stuck traffic, which can happen a bit here in South Florida.
I have noticed since I got the cruise control that my mileage on the highway, is better then it used to be, around 38 mor often then not.
Oh, and I crossed 12,000 miles on my less the ten month old Box the other day. And it's a five speed, AEM CAI, BORLA, and lowered, which also helped in the MPG.

I could be wrong but I think it's the actual shape of the box. If you think about it, driving at high speeds causes your car to encounter a large amount of air resistance. The more resistance the more power you'll need to maintain that speed. The more power, the more fuel you'll require. I could be wrong, but that's what i'm thinking.

It's a BRICK, (uh uh uh) house...or in this case, a brick car. That is why I think my mileage went up (just a bit) when I lowered it. Less resistance. And, as we all know, resistance is futile.
Or in the case of the Box, it's number one enemy.

someone told me the aerodynamics of the xB aren't far off that of the xA. . . dunno if it is true, but if so, wow. Fuel consumption ain't bad at all in this thing
