Default We Bought One

Well, after thinking and driving a bunch of vehicles my wife (42) and I (49) bought an xB. It is Thunder Cloud (silver) with the factory Scion mags, automatic, security system, floor mats for front/back and trunk. We also bought the center console, and an extended warranty 7 years/75,000 miles with 5 years of free oil changes (every three months for the 5 years) (Total cost for the extended warranty was $1100.00 but I fiqured 5 years of oil changes parts & labor would add up to at least $500.00) The deal was fair, I traded in a 02 Dodge Caravan that has more problems than I could list, lets just say no more Chrysler products. One question I have is what is the difference between the keyless entry, which apparently is standard and the security system?

I was telling the student minister at the church where I minister about our purchase and he was amazed that someone my age would buy this car because it was geared for younger drivers. He asked me if I saw a bumber sticker on an xB in our city that reads "You've just been passed by a toaster!" Cute, anyway my wife is thrilled as this will ber her car, I'm thrilled about the gas milage and the fact that my insurance actually dropped $40.00 semi-annually.

We get the car on Thursday, so I'm sure that a few middle aged people driving a "toaster" will turn a few young heads.

You made smart purchase! You've got 10 years on me, but I'm still not quite in the "target demographic" for Scion either. I have a xA and my wife drives the xB. A year ago, I was driving a full-size truck, and she was driving a Buick Lesabre. Talk about a change! They were the best decisions we've made in a long time. We love the Scions, and the milage is a HUGE plus. Enjoy!

*edit* I almost forgot. I wanted to try an answer your question. The standard keyless entry on a xB is only keyless entry. If someone pics a lock or breaks in, there is no alarm to sound. It does have a "Panic Button" on the remote which will flash the lights and blow the horn if you hold the button down, but no alarm against forced entry to the car. The Scion Security does. Also, I think the Scion Security has a starter disable feature in case someone ignores the alarm and tries to hotwire the car.

Hambug, just be careful dude... every small modification can lead to another. It doesn't sound like you plan on doing any mods but I'm just for-warning you, they are hard to resist doing and once you start you may not know when to stop.

Enjoy the ride and welcome to our world.

Congratulations on your smart choice.

Hang around and your will find that you are not even close t being the oldest xB owner. The car's practicality, economy, and easy ingress/egress make it a popular choice among middle-aged drivers, a fact that Toyota doesn't particularly want to promote (but they're happy to take our money!).

Our xB also replaced a pile o' [bless-me-jesus] Caravan, and *that* thing was the biggest car-buying mistake of my life.

Congrats Hambug!
Great choice in color too. I can only echo what everyone else has said regarding the ease of getting in and out of this car as well as the deisre to add mods. Ours replaced the wifes Chevy Cavalier that was in decent shape but something I did not fit into very well.

I just installed the Boomerang armrest and while it is a tad low for me it holds the wife's many CD's and gives her some place to rest her arm whiel she drives one handed and yaps on the cel. (Ihope the car can survive her)

We have friendly arguments about who is going to drive it when we go places together. Gas prices aside, I like driving it more than my 4x4 Suburban and hope to get another one for my own tinkering and modifying.

I have received some strange looks from younger people when driving and most give a friendly wave.

Welcome Hambug and wife. I just got mine recently too and both dh(dear husband) and I love this new car. (Traded in a Town and Country). Now our biggest problem is which car to take someplace... his Scion tC or my xB :o) (Never had that problem before... he NEVER wanted to drive in the minivan... only his tC.

Maybe we need to start a Senior Scion group. Call it the "xBoomers" or "tCoots" or "xAntiques" Something to think about anyway.

Thanks to all for the nice welcome. Yes I have already been on eBay doing a bit of xB searching and was very surprised at all of the "stuff" available.

The dealer called us today and said the car is right on schedule to be ready for us tomorrow. YEAH!
I really like the idea someone had of a seniors group, even though at 49 I really don't think that is quite seniors age. Again thanks from the welcome, and I'll be doing some lurking and reading to catch up on what you youngins have done to your boxes so I can get some good ideas.

Another question? Have there been any crash tests done on the xB and if so how did it do?

xB for the older set? Welllll, maybe. I'm 52 and I hope to get my Camo xB before I turn 53 . . . .

BUT . . . .

My 20-something daughters (25 and 27) said "an UGLY-MOBILE -- YUK!"

And my 21-year-old son said "Dad! An xB! KEWL!! _____IN'!!!"

So, the appeal of the xB goes from Older Than Dirt (what it says on the back of one of my Tshirts) to barely out of teens . . . and maybe skipping the folks in between? Who knows . . . . ? ?

-Don (waiting, waiting, waiting for his xB in Rochester, MN)
