Default What happes to the leftover 04's

With the 05's coming in June. What happens to the leftover 04 xBs? Do they lower the price to clear out the ports? Or do they just change the Moroney sticker to say 05?..Is ther really any difference between an 04 and an 05?

Seems to me 04" are about to lose value if you can get an 05 for the same price. Is'n newer bettter?

they do this every year. production is timed so that there aren't too many 04's left when the 05s are rolled out. i think if there are, they will just delay the release of 05's. toyota is pretty good at this and they sell so many cars that you're not going to get a new 04 for $9000 or anything like that. especially since there are no changes for the 05 model.

I was thinking that the value will depreciate rather quickly if the vehicle is not a RS1
How well have the 03's held their value?

this doesnt seem like a question any different than buying any other car out there... of course the cars are depreciating.... who cares, im not selling. yeah, you can probably get an '04 for a little less than an '05 if you ever get the option.

doesn't the pure pricing policy step in somewhere along here or is that only for "current year" cars?

Thats what I am thinking, If the price of an 05 is the same as an 04. What advantage is there to buy an 04?
I did an internet search for used SCIONs and they all seemed priced at or above new.

Sometimes the dealer or possibly distributor will sell the previous years cars at an auction. I am a broker for a friend that gets his cars to sell from a local auction. The reason why they sell the previous year through the auction is so the general public doesn't get the price break or else people would just wait every year to save big.

Last year there were '03 SIs w/ less than 500 miles for 12K and Accord V6s for 17K as an example.

I asked the manager from one of the Toyota dealers here at our last meet what they plan to do with all the 04s. He said they will sell them first before they sell 05s. I know there are thousands of XBs at our port here because I have a friend that works there. Once a dealer starts selling the 05s then other will have to follow or they will lose sales.

If XBs do show up at the auction for 11K or so we are prepared to get about 5-6 of them for resale, maybe more depending on the demand. I want another one for me (I got the RS1 for my fiance) and I know 3 people waiting to see if they come to the auction or not. We don't try to make a killing we just make if fair for the buyer and for our time invested.

Good luck on finding a great deal. Thus far the "pure pricing" pretty much stays.

Tobiwan,
Thanks for the info. It made me wonder with so many 04s at the port and the 05.'s being released to the midwest dealers how they would handle it. I figure the the RS1 will at least hold some value because of the limited numbers.

I aqm willing to bet that by the end of summer when no Lavas are left, some people could sell there used ones at a premium.

All your 04s are belong to us. haha

They should give them to Monster Garage and have them build a real transformer like in the commercial. It doesn't have to do the Matrix/Dogbeast thing but if they could wrap an xA with an xB, I think that could be trick...

I don't think the model year will have as much effect over value as mileage and such. If you've got an 04 with less miles than an 05, the bluebook should account for that...

Otherwise, everyone who bought a new car at the end of the model year would be getting shafted, depreciation-wise.

I think that all Scions will depreciate relatively fast, given the perceived demographic of their drivers. "Adult driven" will be a positive feature in ads for used Scions!

RS1s are unlikely to hold their value any better. How many other "special edition" Japanese cars have become collectors' items? After all, the RS1 is is a color and option package, not a performance improvement.

And 03's? There weren't any, at least not in the US.

Of course, resale value only really matters if you intend to resell!

I have to agree with the above poster - resale value is not going to be very different between the RS1 and regular xB. If anything, it could be possibly lower because the RS1 is a lot harder sell to normal people, the market for the RS1 is very niche.

just outta curiosity...what do you think they do with all the cars, motorcylces, boats, semi trucks, snowboards or anything that comes out every year??? they just sell them until they are gone!!! If they have to lower the price to sell it then thats what they do... did you just think they shipped them back to the maker and they melted them down to make the 05's or what????

I understand marketing. No need to be condendscending .
With pure pricing the 04 and 05's are the same price.. Se either they raise the price of the 05's or lower the 04s. This has more to do with the gradual roll out. If the Midwest dealers have 05's in June it woudl mean the WC,SE and EC dealers must continue to sell 04's untill gone? Most car companies release newest models to all not just certain areas.

I guess you would have to define normal. Normal people by my understanding would not buy an xB in the first place..
Does any one know what the exact breakdbown on colors sold is? IMO I would think that based upon 6 or 7 color choices the Lava would have to make up a fair percentage.
I had read somwhere that March was a record month for xB's sold. I think the number was arounf 3200 units.
