Why will no Scion Dealer in the Northwest sell me a XB?
I want to buy a Black Sand Pearl Scion XB in a five speed somewhere in the Northwest. No dealer in Washington State or Oregon will sell me one. They have no issue selling me one till I mention I am from Canada. I am currently aware of many Canadian XB owners who have exported their units which they bought brand new from Northwest dealerships with no issue. I want this unit for my own personal usage, it will be registered to my self, I do not wish to resell it. I am paying cash for it, no financing or leasing just a straight out right purchase. They are totally legal in Canada, (except for the daytime running light module) after a out of country inspection, which is a twenty five dollar fix. All the dealership has to do is fax a copy of the bill of sale to customs and a letter declaring there are no recalls on the XB. That is the extent of the paperwork. I have spoken with the regional manager for Scion in the Northwest through the Scion Customer Expeirence and he claims they have no policy set in place. I understand that Scion dealers are independently owned and operated and it is there decision to whom they wish to sell. I wish they would get their stories straight. Most dealership claim it is a policy directly from Scion/Toyota and they can lose their license for selling vehicles for export. Then I confront them with the fact that I have contacted both Scion/Toyota and they have no record of such a policy and they switch their stories to claim that it is dealership policy or if I get the comment "it is coming from uppper-ups or big wigs". If there is a formal policy on this I would like to see it, Scion is certainaly not aware of it. I find it very odd that the same dealer will sell me a Camry but if I want a Scion it is a big no-no. I am flying to the Northwest for business, this is where my companies head office is located, so I would like to pick it up when I am down in the US. So Portland, Seattle, I will even drive to Spokane or just basically anywhere in the Northwest I am so frustrated .
So what I am basically asking for is a dealership that is willing to sell me a new 2006 Black Sand Pearl Scion XB five speed, I know it sounds simple but for some reason it has become very complicated.
If any one is willing to assist me, Thanks in advance,
Kirby

That is odd. My partner sold a Tundra to a guy from Canada. We just had to complete the wire transfer, send info to customs and wait 3 days. Guy flew down, took delivery and drove back up.
Hmm.. odd... cuz we'ver heard/spoken to a few owners from canada who had gotten them from Dealers here in washingtong state...
You've probably already talked to them (dealerships not necsarily the person)... but Victor Thompson/Lake City Scion (seattle) or Steve Bjorsnson (sp?) of Puyallup Scion (30min s of seattle) both have gone above and beyond to get scion's out there.... try looking them up. both peruse SL too.... Victor's screen name is "topdog" and Steve's is "nwscionman" both can be found posting in the Pacific Northwest Regions here...
IF for some reason they cant.... try MNscion here on scionlife... she's down in Gladstone oregon.. farther away.. but also willing to help out as much as she can... Kelly is her name

I would go to Ron Tonkin Scion in Portland. They treated me very good, and my buddy ended up walking in to check em out the night we bought it, and he bought one the same night too because of how good the car (and service) was.
I'd go there and say you were told to check them out. They have a huge on-lot selection too.

Funny how some dealers don't want MONEY. That's crazy for sure. Heck they could even charge a small fee for the extra little effort involved with the customs paperwork.
I finally was able to get a dealer to assist me. Steve from Puyallup Scion hooked me up. A big thanks to Steve and his crew in Puyallup. So if anyone else needs one I highly recommend them. I hear Steve has a sweet tooth for Crown Royal so if any others wants to seal a deal with Steve a big bootle of Crown Royal will help stamp the paperwork.
Thanks again Steve,
Kirby

Yaaaaa, for Steve. How far into the USA did you have to go? If it was far I'd raise some heck with Scion corp about those dealers that gave you a hard time.
Yeah, I asked Steve if he'd gotten together with "that guy from Canada" (sorry, Kirby, I didn't remember your name) and if he was able to set up a proper deal with him when I last saw him, and he knew exactly who and what I was talking about and was happy to be able to get it all arranged, no problems.
Jeff, he's not having to come all that far out of his way - Puyallup is only about 30 miles from SeaTac airport, which is probably where Kirby flies into this country.
Glad you got him set up, Steve!
Kirby! Stay in touch! Let us know how this all goes, and how you like your box. :D
Take care,
Tomas
