Default Window Tinting??

Okay so in my old thread about the A/C, i got a lot of replies that window tinting helps a LOT. How does window tinting work? Do you get completely new windows? How much does it cost?

Thanks guys again!

true tinting (as opposed to the colored glass that came stock in t xB) is a plastic coating applied to the inside of the glass. No windows are replaced. Cost varies from area to area, expect an absolute minimum of $150+ . Tinting works as a glass breakage barrier, temperature barrier and UV filter.

I had a mobile window tinter come to my house and tint the front windows (didn't match perfectly as the front ended up a little darker than factory in the rear), but looked good and was $75. Took him about 40minutes.

holy crap - a mobile dude AND $75. As long as the qaulity came out nice, that's all the counts (although $75 is a little high - in any market.) Mobile guys are usually the price ****** as they have no overhead other than film to deal with. As long as they have a covered, wind protected area to work in, contamination shouldn't be a real problem. "WHO" to go to.. Don't know dude, 've only driven through DFW, don't know anyone there.

Call the the Lexus side of the dealership, tell them you bought a car a while back, need it tinted and want to know who they send the Lexus's out to. (Lexus tends to get a little picky about work qaulity)

when you get it tinted.... NEVER use window cleaner on it. just soapy water or you'll ruin it

texas requires 25% visibility. i think ill go with just that, and have it block out 50% of the heat...thatl be good.

IDK, the tint guy told me not to use windex or anything like that, but "spray-away" (comes in an aerosol type can, sold at Costco) was great...haven't tried it yet

Thanx for the tip about Sway-Away, Grnxb. I'll remember that.

I have many memories of hot summers in the Valley of the Sun. I lived in a trailer in the middle of a corn field at 83rd Av & Glendale. The closest thing to me was 63rd Av. There was nothin' for miles around. Window tinting was a brand new industry then and it didn't do curved glass.

My girlfriends dad is a professional tinter, and spray-way is def. the stuff to use, he runs through about a can a day. Many places sell it, but Sam's Club sells it for a pretty good price, $1.50 a can i think (its sold in packs of 3 or 4 cans) He tinted my front doors for $10 (bro hook-up I guess) I also had him cut some special tint (4 inch flames on every window that look like they come out of the door, on the bottom of the window; I'll have to post some pics.) I installed a CD player in his Tahoe Limited for trade for the flames. However, in the New Mexico area, tinting the two front doors is usually around $60- $90. Hope this helps.

Bye

Ohh, need to see better pics of that!

I tried to do the same thing for a friend, couldn't get it just right.
Wound up scratching the tint with the squeegie, got ____ed and pulled it all down.

i think he meant $60 for the two fronts, which is about normal. $60 for the whole thing is below cost if they used professional grade film.
