Window Tinting a tiny bit too dark????
I'm in MA and after looking at all the regulations, I think I've gone too dark with my tinting. What horror stories can you tell me about being pulled over for this? Or are they all just rumors.
Windows are all 20% and I left the front untouched.
Thanks,
Jeff

20% is fine, I've been driving around with 20% on Long Island, which is pretty strict, and havent been hassled once. I actually got a comment from an off duty officer how much it makes the car look nicer.
As long as you arent driving eratically, or you have a "pull me over officer" exhaust, you should be fine.
Also, as for darkness, I love 20% for it's sense of security, while offering good day-time visibilty, with bearable nighttime... I personally wouldnt go less than 20% based on night time visibility alone.
When I first got my 20% tint, It felt weird, kind of dark, and claustrophobic in the car, but you quickly get used to it. Now whenever I ride in my friends non-tinted cars, I feel so naked and exposed.

mine are 5% all the way around front windows + brow on windshield. look at my pics. i havn't been pulled over yet (knock on wood), and i've had that kind of tint on my past 2 cars as well. i live in kansas city and the legal limit is 35%.

I'm in MA too. Don't forget they might get you at inspection time. When I got my windows tinted the owner of the shop was on the phone with a client who failed his inspection. I think they only check the drivers and passengers windows.

i'm from MA as well. whenever i've gotten pulled over i've always been hassled but never ticketed because of the tint on my 2-door coupe (just bought the xA for my wife, which is why i'm on this site [LOOOVE the xA and am planning on stealing it from her since i leave for work before she does]).
in massachusetts it is illegal to have any window tinting that is darker than 35%. now that i've made THAT statement...
they can only ticket you if they can test your tint. the meter can only go on a normal window that can be rolled down, so as long as all your normal door windows are 35% you'll be fine (for you out there w/ 20%, you've been lucky... if they test them, though, you WILL get ticketed for it [same goes for inspections. won't pass if any window that can be tested is darker than 35%]).
i have 35% on driver/passenger. the rest is 5%, but those windows can't be tested with the meters the cops use, so despite the hassle i've never gotten fined for it.
just tossin' in my $0.02.

buddy of mine had all his windows but front to 5% here in CT, and got busted by 2 cops in 2 months. first time he was busted for speeding and the cop checked the windows while he was pulled over: ticket and a month to get the windows legal. little over 30 days later, another cop randomly runs his plate while driving behind him in town, notices the past month's infraction, notices those windows are STILL really dark. pulled over again, tested again, ticketed again. of course it wasn't that he didnt have a chance to get them fixed: he just said "ill just pay the ticket and not worry about it again".
after the second ticket, he STILL hasnt gotten them legal. but he's not very smart

Paranoia
I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get 35% put in the front two windows and leave the rest of the car 20%. It's gonna cost me another hundred+, but then I won't be freaked out all summer and they'll probably let me drive around with it like that.
Is there a way to flip a switch in the car or remove a fuse so the rear windows are inoperable in case I get pulled over?

Just a though but does your state allow for medical waivers. Might just have to get a note from you eye doctor stating you have a condition that bright light effects your vision. Step daughter did this in Michigan. Cant stop them from pulling you over and or writting a ticket but in court it gets them thrown out pretty fast.

Dude...don't even trip. If they stop you, it's only a fix-it ticket. It's not worth spending more money on. F biting the bullet! Besides, your car would look a little wierd w/ two-tone tint. Just leave it. Don't change it until they say something if they do at all.[/list]
