Default Windshield Wipers

Windshield Wipers

Do the ones that come with the box when you buy it suck and if I replace them that will work better? Or is it that the whole mechanism sucks and no matter what kind of blade I have on there I will never get any bug off my window?

Ewwww!

I know how you feel, but wipers are meant for rain. To get the bugs off, I use Windex, paper towels, and a little elbow grease. I've also applied Rain-ex which works quite well in the rain, but I'm not sure if it helps repel bug-goo because I've used it since I first got my xB.

I understand that they are for rain but I have never had a car that the wipers did nothing for bugs.....and they way this thing acts like a bug zapper one would thing bug removal would be a good thing.

You know there are window washer fluids out there that have added bug protection in the liquid. So not only will it bead up the rain but it takes care of the bugs too. I think RainX puts it out and there are generic brands out there too. Worth a try.

replaceing the windshield wipers will not get the bugs off if u want to try to have the windshield wipers be used to get the bugs off then u need to fix the mechinical part of the windshield wipers to have more force on the windshield

I thought I might need to tighten the spring.

A couple of tips.

DON"T use wiper fluid that has silicon or anything else funky
in it. IT WILL STAIN YOUR PAINT!!

Not sure about you, but I don't like to have my car stained
wiper fluid blue. My Red Porsche has this problem, and it
took HOURS of buffing with a heavy power buffer to fix!

Because the windshield on the box is so flat, the bugs will splat!
Bigtime! I've never seen bugs splatter so easily and visciously!

My suggestion would be to Wax or Rain-X your windshield
and just get some good stiff wiper blades, like some nice
(hard) silicon ones.

I used to Rain-X my windshield regularly, but lately I've found
that just cleaning my windows with my detail spray (carnuba
wax in it) helps me get the bugs of MUCH easier then using
Rain-X.

I still feel Rain-X is better for rain, but the Carnuba based
detail spray beads up the water about 90% as well as the
Rain-X, it's just much nicer for cleaning the windshield later!

I hope this helps out some. I'm nutty about keeping my
windows clean, and it took me a while to get this all worked
out for the box.

Oh, also, NXT window cleaner, and/or any good spray bottle
bug and tar remover is great for getting bugs off at the gas
station. I have a bottle of each in my box at all times!

AH, yes to all the above!

WARNING many or most or all xB wiper blades are time bombs.

there was a recent thread detailing the common failure

read it and -go get NON-oem wiper blades from your auto parts store

the TRICO brand is excellent and fits right up

SUGGEST using 18" or 19" blades instead of the 20" stocks.
The 18" blades on my xb look so much better and, really, I don't give up any real sweep area. The passenger side blade lays a lot better to the glass.

DON'T use the OEM blades until you know by -test- that they are not time bomb blades.
You might ruin your roof paint if you don't check this out.

ALSO--- the shorter blades you may elect to choose will wipe -better because being shorter, the XX amount of pressure is now concentrated along a shorter line of squeegee rubber. Seeeee?
