wrapping a car instead of painting it?
has anyone done this? there is a scene in the bruce willis movie "the jackal" where he has a minivan wrapped to look white, and after he escapes he powerwashes the wrap off... anyone remember that?
well that got me thinking, i bet wrapping a car would be cheaper than painting it (and reversible)... any thoughts?

SICKKKKK movie....i don't think you could do that and make it look nice at the same time....too many bubble issues i'd assume...anyway good luck and let us know if you decide to do it......my vote would be no though
I think it's over $1000 to get that done. Don't remember where I got that number from but ya... Either way it's a hole lot of money to pay someone to put some plastic wrap on your car, that's why only AD companies are doing it.
I wouldn't do it. I'm wondering if it could do any damage, it probably acts like a blanket and holds some heat in the metal and glass.

Weird. I guess if you wanted to completely and temporarily change the color or add some fancy graphics that wouldn't be good for resale. I'd like to see what it would look like after a year of regular driving and parking out in the elements before I'd ever consider it.

car wrapping is expensive I do that it's roughly $3,000 per car

Isn't a single color paint job the same price?
Imagine what happens if you get a slight tear somewhere in the plastic, I wonder if the air going over it when driving slowly peals it off, or gets bubbles everywhere.

It will peal... fade... & crack. over time... but so does paint. Car warps kick a$$ (I wrap xB's for 2K)!!! It can do some crazy things that paint can't! But at the end of the day, paint looks better. I would only wrap my car "IF" I own a business or I want something short term. Any other reason I would paint!
Cheers,
J
Most race cars and trucks are wrapped now. But yeah, it has it's downfalls, like mentioned above.
BTW, the van in "The Jackal" was water based paint, not vinyl. Notice how it washed down the drain. If you use water based paint over a smooth surface, it will come right off with high pressure air or water. Just don't sand first. Thought of doing this one time to change the color of my car for every car show. Imagine people who see it all the time wondering how you change the color so fast.

hey guys, I've been doing wraps for almost 4yrs now. I'm out of Wilmington NC....we print in house or you can order your graphics from another company. I've done 2 planes, a dozen boats and countless car, van and truck installs. From full wrap to 3/4, 1/2 wraps. if you goto www.wwaytv3.com/crankitup It's under the image monster clip. I just did this panel wrap for a jeep this company is giving away. I think it totally changes the look of any vehicle, I'd recommend them over paint, if your only gonna keep the vehicle for a few years.
