xB changes from 04 - 06? Thanks!
Hey,
I was just wondering, were there any big changes /fixed problems starting from the 04 scion to the standard 06 xB's? I know a little HP was lost along the way, but what about reliability, modd-ability (not a real word, i know), body changes, interior changes, etc. I'm looking in to getting a used one and just want to know I guess which one (if any) is just known for being all-around better or tougher.
Thanks for the help! and I hope this made since!

umm... yeah search next time, but the canges from 04 to 05 are minor compared to the changes from 05 to 06.
04-05: air conditioning problems fixed, and i think they included the passenger needs seatbelt light.
05-06: seering coloum has audio controls, audio head unit change, loss of 1 switch option with the passenger air bag control.

These are copied from PDFs. There is a separate PDF just on the engine changes, but it has too many tables and diagrams to copy as text.

xB OUTLINE OF NEW FEATURES
The following changes have been made for the 2005 model year.
1. Interior
A vanity mirror has been adopted on the front passenger sun visor, in addition to the drivers side.
2. 1NZ-FE Engine
The TOYOTA Genuine Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) has been adapted. As a result, the maintenance
interval has been extended.
Specifications
Model 05 xB 04 xB
Capacity A/T 4.3 (4.5, 3.
Liter (US qts, Imp. qts) M/T 4.4 (4.6, 3.9)
Type TOYOTA Genuine SLLC TOYOTA Genuine LLC
Engine Color Pink Red
Coolant
Maintenance
First time
100,000 mile
(160,000 km) Every 30,000 mile
(48 000 km) or 24 months
Intervals
Subsequent
Every 50,000 mile
(80,000 km)
48,000 whichever comes first
SLLC is pre-mixed (50% coolant and 50% deionized water), so no dilution is needed when adding or
replacing SLLC in the vehicle.
If LLC is mixed with SLLC, the interval for LLC (every 30,000 mile (48,000 km) or 24 months) should
be used.
You can also apply the new maintenance interval (every 50,000 mile (80,000 km)) to vehicles initially
filled with LLC (red-colored), if you use SLLC (pink-colored) for the coolant change.
3. Engine Control
The ECM outputs a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to the hand-held tester in accordance with OBD
II (On-Board Diagnosis II).

xB OUTLINE OF NEW FEATURES
The following changes are made for the 2006 model year.
1. 1NZ-FE Engine
In order to comply with the tailpipe emission regulation LEV, the 1NZ-FE engine is changed in the same
way as 06 xA. For details, see page 3.
2. Brake
As with 06 xA, the ECM and A/C amplifier are added to the CAN (Controller Area Network) of the VSC.
3. Multiplex Communication
The CAN is used between the ECM and A/C amplifier, and the network is changed. The resistors, which
were built into the Skid Control ECU and steering angle sensor in the 05 xB, are located to the ECM and
A/C amplifier.

4. Air Conditioning
As with 06 xA, the air conditioning system is changed to maintain cooling performance as follows:
The width of the condenser is broadened: 500 mm (19.7 in.) 640 mm (25.2 in.)
A/C performance is improved. For details, see page 28.
The A/C compressor control is changed from the ECM to the A/C amplifier. The A/C amplifier is
connected with the ECM through the CAN. Accordingly, the system diagram is changed. For details, see
page 29.
A/C pressure switch is changed to A/C pressure sensor.
With the adoption of the max. cool switch, max. cool mode is added to the 2-way flow control. For details,
see page 30.
5. Audio System
The optional audio head unit from the dealer is compatible with the auxiliary audio system. Therefore, the
auxiliary jack comes as standard equipment.
