anyone know if the scion and Xb emblem on the back hatch have holes behind them or are they just held on with double back tape?

Yeah, just glued on with 3M tape. I wish someone made these things in CHROME along with the other 2 Scion emblems. Most all the other Toyota emblems are chrome

Take a 24" piece of "buttonhole thread" (the kind of thread you use to sew buttons on with), wrap it around your left and right index fingers, and "saw" inbetween the emblem and the paint. This will cut the double-sided tape right through the middle and the emblem will fall off. Rub some "GooGone" on the adhesive still attached to the paint, and it will come off clean, leaving nothing but shiny paint!

P.S. - If you don't have or can't get GooGone, using corn oil (the kind you cook with). It'll take a bit more work, but the results are the same.

Only if you replace it with a "Type R" sticker or some other nonsense
