Default xB owners please reply if [your rear lip has come loose]l

I own an 2004 TCM xB, this is what happend to me last week.

I was driving to work the other day and I had to drive through a puddle to get onto the freeway, after a mile or two the rear lip came loose, I found out that a few of the plastic clips broke from the force of the rain water kicked up from my wheels and the puddle finished the job to remove the lip. I complained to the dealer about this and the fact that the rear does not have any metal screws like the front lip does, and that should be considered a design flaw, needless to say I'm going to have a meeting with a Toyota Factory rep soon, so if any of you had a similar expirence of the Rear lip coming off or getting loose I could use your help, as this may become a TSB if enough people voice their concern. Please reply, PM me, or email me at bb384@sbcglobal.net

Thanks in advance

This should be covered by warranty , just hope that yer rear lip doesnt have lots of impact marks or they will try to void.

I have one small scratch but its on the other side of the lip and is irrevalant to the rear lip having plastic clips and the front lip having metal screwes.

after i got rear ended the bumper and clips were replaced. just go to the dealer and say the rear lips seem off

Mine was either missing a clip in the center when I got it or broke soon after. I had to push it in at the center and then I ziptied it until I finally went in for another warranty issue. They replaced the clip, but didnt get it flush quite right... They pulled the center in too much and the middle of each piece kinda pokes out.

Pretty much they don't want to replace the clips/repair/replace the lip. I don't want to deal with them, so I just replaced every damn clip with bolts and washers, so they're on there tight! I recomend doing it if you live in rainy areas. Someday if I ever get free time, and a camera, I'll take my car to my friends shop and do a write up on what clips specifically to replace, I would just replace all of them (12 in total I think). But dont hold your breath on that right up. I barely have time to eat.

Default Rear LIP

Since I have had mine, It has never come loose or off. But I have the problem of the CENTER not matching up.
So I wonder if it came off before or if it could just come from the Factory that way ?
I havent gotten under the car, but I tugged on the lip to see if could straighten it, but it wouldnt move.
Am I able ,maybe, to loosen the clip/screw and Straighten it ( Maybe ) if I got down there ?
I only Drive them, I dont build them.

Those aren't put on at the factory, they're either installed at Port or by the dealer, so it'll depend on how much care is used...

I just got my 2005 BSP xB a little over a month ago and already the rear lip is coming loose. I have never hit anything or rubbed it on anything. I have only driven it the snow but not even heavy snow. This is a problem though with new xB's.

Mine came off and was heavily damaged. My dealer didn't want to fix it, apparently our bumpers aren't covered under the "bumper to bumper" warranty.

Anyways, Scion Corp couldnt help because the Regional Rep took the word of the Service Manager that it was user error(I guess you can't drive in the rain with these cars?)

I eventually contacted the GM and he was informed that we've bought numerous cars from his dealership and would love to continue to do so...the service manager called me not 15 minutes later asking what color my car was.

Dont take what they give you, that piece catches water, it's a design flaw.

Like I said, replacing the lip won't solve the problem, replacing those plastic clips (that the dealer installs) with REAL BOLTS will. The xB's rear lip is only held by plastic clips, so either Toyota/or the dealer has to use bolts instead of clips, or Scion should make mudguards, or make a better wheel well liner to not let water get kicked up to the rear bumper. It doesnt help that the rear bumper is like a foot away from the rear tires either.

Could someone please make this a sticky?

For my missing plastic clips on the rear underspolier i use thick zip ties. Yeah yeah i know it the cheap way but it works.

Mine split down the seam. The plastic screw came loose, I just poked around and stuck it back together... I figured I'd just get the NKB bumper. ;)

Let me add this to your tale:

The first day after getting my xB, an old lady backed up into the back of our xB in a parking lot. We got a 1/2" beginning of a crack, a few small scuffs, and the right half of the bumper got unhinged. I just popped it back into place and all was fine. Damn frustrated after having the car for one day, but was not going to pay the $500 deductable for the very minor scuff. No dents, etc. If that bumper had been bolted, however, it would've been dented and would've needed to be replaced....

Yes yes.

Default Back Crack

WOW, I wonder if thats true. If Not it sure sounds plausible . Any fix on a Bumper is
I even wonder if we have Stability Control and Traction , because without it Every corner the car made over 7mph , it Flipped Over
Well thats Real " LEGO " if you are able to " Snap " the bumper back together. Has Anyone made a " LEGO " xB/bB ? Is there a pic , How did it look ?
It really sucks to get Hit , especially so soon after purchase .
Here is my story. Within 15hrs of getting my xB , I had to go the Market . I parked away from other cars. But it wasnt a car that hit me , it was a Shopping Cart ! And not only did it HIT and DENT it , But it also SCRAPED it just above the Wheel Well All I could do was pull out a little bottle of Touch Up paint , and that DID NOT fill in the dent !
