Default XB purchase question

Hey guys, I'm soon to be entering the XB community. Here's my question. I'm currently looking at 2 dif. XBs to purchase. One more affordable with higher miles. One higher priced with lesser miles:

option A. 2004 XB - Hunter Green - 124,000k miles for $6,500k. No upgrades

option B. 2005 XB - Metallic - 44,000, miles for $11,500k. Alloys and remote start

What do you guys think? Worth getting a better deal for 7k, or spending 11,500 and getting one with 1/3 the miles?

In my opinion, the one with the lower miles is a better deal. If you look at what the national average is suppossed to be (also what the banks look at) 12,000 miles per year. Some will give 15,000. The 04 is really high mileage. The 05 may be a little off too but still in the ball park.

I also had a '05 White XB with 42k miles; all the trimmings (alloys, spoiler, visors, fogs) that I was trying to negotiate down to $12,000. Don't think i can get it that low though. They wanted closer to $13,000

Probably worth it for 13,000. Offer them 12,500. Walk if they don't give in. They will call you in a day or so.

Ha. Funny how budgets can inch up like that ;)

Thing is the White one is super sharp. I like the white contrast with the tinted windows. Killer! $12,500 would be over what i was hoping to spend on one, but that is my favorite look. White with all the upgrades.

The Metallic one for $11,500 seems nice too, thought I'd have to do some work to upgrade exterior (fogs, spoiler).

I don't know, is it worth saving $1000?

decisions decisions...

If you are gonna do the upgrads anyway, why not get the one that is already set up like you want it. Check the rates through your bank. Chances are, they will be lower thus lowering your payment and making the white one affordable.

Another thing to consider is that the one with 44k miles will be covered under the factory powertrain warranty for another 16k miles.

If the camo box's interior & exterior are in shape, I'd go that route.. I mean, for the money you would save, you could just drop a new engine in it!

Not having a car payment is an attractive option. I'm going to go check it out today, see if the body is clean and interior not too thrashed.

Damn Son! If you are gonna pay cash, put that down on the newer one with less miles and your payment will be next to nothing. Of course, like Archngl said, you could afford a motor and finance that if you wanted to.

Not a gear-head, so less work is better when it comes to engine, etc

Hey, i'm Dutch, just debating whether I want a car payment or none. Still leaning towards less miles, just because not many Scions out there with 124k, and I don't know if the tranny or something will wear out.

Still say that I'd suck up the payment and go with less miles and a warranty.

I bought my '04 with 92K on it for $6600. It drove just like a '06 w/31K I drove the day before.

I personally would consider getting the high miles one completely checked out at the dealership for problems, and if nothing surfaces buy that one. You can bank the $$ that would be your car payment. If you do have a breakdown the cash will be there to cover it, and if you don't you've got $$ in the bank come time to replace it.

But I'm cheap, and even a '04 is still the newest car I've ever bought. So take my advice with that grain of salt.

Ha. I'm more in your camp Improbcat. I'd love to get one for under 10k. If anyone has any further leads for me please let me know. The '04 with 124k on it was just raised in price by the lot because of "tune ups" they did to the car. Anyway, I wouldn't pay much over 6k for something with 124k on it.

If anyone knows of a pre owned Scion out there at a decent price, let me know.

thanks,
andy.

124k is a lot of miles. It'd probably be good for another 100k if it's been maintained, but I wouldn't do it. I guess it depends on how long you intend to keep it, how many miles you expect to put on it, how much you're willing to put up with minor inconveniences and cost of maintenance.

I only had one vehicle that I took over 100k miles. I got it new so I know it was maintained. Aside from the regular oil changes and tune ups, I had to replace the clutch, a transmission seal, brakes, exhaust, timing belt, starter, and shocks. Pretty much all of that was done between 75k and 90k miles. I think I got rid of it around 115k miles and that was because the A/C compressor was starting to go and I didn't want to pay for a replacement.

Well that was a profoundly unhelpful comment.

Ha. Well, I'm in the market guys, if you know or spot a decent one for sale let me know. I'd really like to pay around 10k and be done with it. White is my fav color ;)

Pass on any leads if you find them.

I'm gonna test drive the one with 124k just for kicks tomorrow.
