Are clear rear sidemarker lights available for the xB?? I havn't seen any specifically for it, or a close match from another toyo product. Anyone???

I went out and poked around my xB to see how the rear markers are installed. If you crawl under the car a bit you can see the back of the lights and the wiring. Seems to me they're easy enough to pop out and unplug. Once you do that, you should be able to take about any other clear marker light that's big enough to cover the hole in the bumper and attach it with double stick foam tape. I wouldn't be surprised if the front fender lights plugged right into the hole and the wiring harness. If not, there's a good chance some clear markers made for another Toyota would fit.

Oh, and I saw some clear marker lights a Pep Boys last Saturday.

 

I was thinking about this subject the other day. I was wondering if you got another set of front fender sidemarkers, how hard it would be to put them in place of the rear sidemarkers, but using a red bulb.

You can get to the back of the light easier if you just remove the 10mm bolt on the edge of the wheel well holding the bumper flange in place. Pull the bumper back and you can acces the single bolt/washer combo on the back of the light.

Take note though, the hole that the light goes into is nearly as big as the light too. Small lights like the fender mounted directional light aren't going to work for obvious reasons

well, easy enough.

1 10mm socket or wrench

1 can of smoked taillight spray from FoliaTec, NOPI, local rice shop, wherever

take out lights, spray till they're dark enough for you, reassemble.

A LOT easier than tracking down interchangable clear markers.

 

I stopped by the parts department while I was at the Toyota dealer yesterday and asked the price on the front fender marker lights. After he pulled it up on his computer, he showed me there were two parts -- the lens assembly (#81731-51021) and the bulb socket that plugs into the lens (#90075-60005).

From my brief look at the diagram, it looks like the front fender markers COULD be a direct swap with the rear markers.

The way to find out would be to pop out the markers on your car to see if it works. I haven't tried accessing the fender markers yet, but you must be able to get to them in order to replace the bulbs. The question is whether there's anything holding them in place, like adhesive, our whether they're just held by prongs.

Um, but that gives you smoked lights instead of clear.

Unless you don't mind doing some plastic-welding work and painting to shrink the hole, it aint gonna work (I've physically checked).

The rear marker light "problem" will either be 1. waiting for someone to make them, 2. casting your own one-offs from Castalite in a mold (WORK), or 3, the easiest, ind a lens from a different car that fits and looks good.

I noticed 4 styles of generic/universal clear side markers by APC at the auto parts store. I didn't have anything to measure with so I don't know if they were large enough to cover the hole in the bumper.

 

It would be nice if someone out there made some marker lights that were a little more flush fit to the bumper. The stockers really stick out. I'm going to just give the Night Shades a shot. My car is pretty much black anyways, so hopefully they will blend in a bit more.

Your other choice is just remove them all together and fabricate some sort of cover plate and paint it body color.

 

I've decided to make a paint mask that has the bB logo on it and paint the rest of the markerlight body color. That will still accomplish the basic look I'm going for until something better comes along.
