Default xB and Towing

Does anyone know the towing capacity of an xB and if it is even possible to put a hitch on one?

The manual (and roughly half the people on this forum) say NO, or at least, DON'T.

The other half are wondering about the best quality and price for xB-compatible hitches.

As for me, I'd like a hitch, but I know that my towing capacity calculations will involve judgement, knowledge, and restraint. Therefore, I am probably NOT getting a tow hitch.

Xb isn't designed to tow, what are you wanting to pull? You need torque to tow, something a 1.5L doesn't exactly have enough of. My advice? Rent a Tacoma V8 or buy one, but you could seriously do some damage towing something like a boat with the box.

Good luck.

I wouldn't put a hitch on the xB. I don't think that it can tow much considering the horsepower but my parents just bought me one on Saturday, so I don't think that you should but that's just my opinion.

I myself wouldn't tow anything on it but I might go with the 900 pounds myself.

Seriously, stop replying to this thread. This topic has been covered at least 15 times.

Ok sorry, I just joined and I myself just got an xB so I don't know what's been covered and what hasn't.

The real problem with towing from an automatic xB is not so much the lack of power (though that is a problem) but the fact that it is exceedingly easy to overstress the seams in the unibody construction and severely weaken the body.

Many unibody vehicles are listed as no towing because of this.

Some unibody vehicles are, however, designed with limited (as compared to separate frame construction) towing capabilities and extra strength is designed into the appropriate joints.

If you are piloting a stick xB, I'd say forget it. Besides the potential structure problems, it is very hard on the clutch.

(Yes, the above is opinion and means that *I* won't be towing with *my* box, but the decision is yours.)
