Default xB vs. the Rockies

Hey All,
Would it be possible to drive my xB from the East Coast to the West Coast going through the Rockies? (I think it's route 80?) Or would it be better to go under the Rockies and head up to San Fran. from LA? I'm wanting a road trip.

yep, looks like i-78 to i-70 takes you thru columbus, indy, st. louis, KC, denver, (thru utah, but DON'T STOP hehe) - then you take 15 to las vegas, and into LA.

Regarding the rockies, coming that way would potentially take you either THRU eisenhower tunnel or over loveland pass, which is the continental divide. Only do loveland pass if there is no snow on the roads, but the view from the top there is _amazing_, and not to be missed.

The xB can totally hack it! I've gone up loveland a few times since sept. and I go up i-70 over the divide every weekend to snowboard.

I wanna go to San Jose... would I still go I70?

I have 2 strapping young men (my sons) that would help drive. Could we do it COMFORTIBLY in 5 days or would it be better to take 7?

Actually, this is a dream. It's the last time I'll have all the kids together before the oldest will get married. Just seems like an adventure. But it all depends on how fast they get jobs; whether we find the time. (I'm not saying anything to them so they don't stop looking. LOL)

I-70 is certainly prettier than I-80 through wyoming. cherrybox is right, you'll be fine through the Rockies.

The Utah desert is beautiful, go through during the day if you can.

:lala:"all gone to look for amer-ica":lala:

I'd want to drive the whole coast, if I were wanting to go to SJ... Imagine coming thru that way, you'd hit some pretty significant cities...drive up the coast, hit yosemite, and the redwood forest, you could even go up thru seattle, over to spokane, thru No-dak and catch mt rushmore...

That would be SOME trip. Reminds me a little of 'zen and the art of motorcycle maintainence'

sorry, didn't catch the part about the 7 day stretch - the trip i described would probably be more like 14-21 days, but it's hard to say.

Sounds like fun, I've always wanted to do a cross country roaad trip. When I drive on I-80 in Sacramento, CA, I always see a freeway sign that says, "Ocean City, MD 3073 mi." Make me wanna just keep going

We drove ours from MA to LA in a few days with stopping for the night...Then drove from LA to CA in a couple days with stopping...I think once in TX and once in Los Angeles...Then is was on to S.F.
It can be done in the 5 days, but if you want any kind of enjoyment out of it, take the extra couple days. This gives some time to take pics and such. Good Luck!
