I am questioning whether or not the xB is a good car, generally, for me, a 16 year old. Would insurance rates be high? Is it a good begginer car (first car)? Is it susceptible to anything? All your serious replies will be taken into deep consideration, thanks.
it's a great car in general and an even better first car. ins is pretty cheap for me as a 20 yr old only thing it is susceptible is rock chips and lots and lots of crazy stares from people well that and a million people asking what it is every 5 minutes. it's a great car for what it is. , cheap , reliable , toyota build quality , warranty , good gas mileage and most of all it has "cool factor" and it's turned up to 11

Thanks for your help, my mom is really into it, and my dad is somewhat convinced, he keeps asking "why do you like the car that i hate?!" lol. Anyway, everyone keep posting so i can get a good variation of opinions
1. It should be a relatively cheap car to insure. It is a far cry from a sports car, does not have 4wd, and does have some standard safety features.
2. If you want a car that gets good MPG, don't need to get anywhere too quickly, and likely will be pretty reliable, the xb may fit the bill. As for a beginner driver, I guess it would work.

Also, at our local dealership, the xBs they sell all have custom rims on them, im guessing the rims are about 2g because their base msrp was at about 15g. Is this 17g a good price (automatic, custom rims, all the extras inside except the cargo net)?
Pharynx, I was in the same exact position you are in this summer. I am 16, this is my first car, my dad liked it, but my mom hated it. And I used the boards for opinions, and that helped my parents fork over the cash to get one. I was not sure if this was the car I wanted until I took a test drive. To answer your questions
Would the insurance rates be high?
-No they would not be. I depends on where you live, but they will be significantly lower as compared to a VW or anything for that matter. After if got my Security System my rate dropped to $160/month
Is it a good beginner car?
-It is amazing to drive. I am tall so I can see the corners of the hood, so I know exactly where my car is. It feels really different, its not like driving a van or a car, once you get used to the feel it like driving a go cart, plan and simple.
In conclusion, if you are interested in this car, if you join ScionLife, you want a Scion. There are SO many +'s to Toyotas in general. Like Fly Sci said, it is a very safe car and the VSC and ABS have saved my life, seriously.
I dont get anywhere near 35mpg, but I live in the mountains and do close to zero highway driving, but I get around 26-31mpg, which is good, I drive my xB hard.
If you need anymore help please e-mail me (Nathant888@aol.com) or AIM me (Nathant88

You dad will warm up to it, like my mom did

After you add taxes to a 17k xB, depending on the insurance r8 you are looking at a 18,000 car. If that is not too much, go for it. But it you are trying to convience your parents to get you one, I would ditch the wheels, and get them later with some lowering springs. It would lower the initial cost of the car making it more appealing to you parents. But then again I dont know how much you are looking to spend.
Afer I financed my car on a ballon plan, it was about $280 a month for five years.

Thanks a lot for all your opinons :D, ill definently have them take a peak at these boards. The thing with the rims is that a monthly payment with the rims is only about 20ish dollars more than without them.

I am just about the same size as you, and it fits very well, the back seats are even better. The head room is excellent, and for those eight hour drives, the seats feel great, it would be nice to have heated seats, but its all good. The only minus is the rearview mirror. It is so much closer to your face that the view is narrow. I plan to replace mine soon. The truck space is O.K.. I have never neede much more than that.
You need to take the xB for a ride, you will be suprised. Haha that has a nice ring to it.

I like the back seats better than the front. I sat back there yesterday for the first time and liked it. I honestly don't like the "Chair" front seats. I was so used the reclined position. Do you think you could have the back seats as the front seats also? That would be a different mod.
